The Will of Isaac Ximenes

 

This is the last Will and Testament of me Isaac Ximenes of London Merchant ffirst I resign my Soul unto the hands of Almighty God hoping for forgiveness of my Sins I desire that I be buried in the Portuguese Jews burying Ground at Mile End and as to the Worldly Estate with which it has pleased God to bless me it is my greatest Misfortune and Unhappiness that the undutiful behaviour of my Children prevents my distributing it between them which had they acted towards me with the same duty and affection which I insist I have always donetowards them I should certainly have done but as they must be sensible that their behaviour justifys me in making a different disposition of my ffortune I therefore give and bequeath the same as followeth I give to the Synagogue of Portuguese Jews the Sum of fifty Pounds I give to Elizabeth Taylor otherwise Shiverman the sum of five hundred pounds I give to Joseph Hisq de Chavas of St Mary Axe Esquire Abraham Levy Ximenes of Bury Street Saint Mary Axe Esquire and my Brother David Ximenes Esqr each of them the sum of fifty pounds for the trouble they may have in the Execution of this my Will And all the rest and residue of my Personal estate of what nature or kind soever And also all such Real Estate as I am seized of or entitled to in Possession or Reversion (except my House herein after devised to my Executors Upon Trust to be sold) I give devise and bequeath to the Children of my brother David Ximenes by his second Wife which are now born to be equally divided between them share and share alike their respective shares to be paid to them upon their severally Attaining their Ages of twenty one Years and As I have already given directions for the sale of my House in Devonshire Square the monies arising from such Sale if completed in my lifetime will constitute part of my Personal Estate but if it should not be Sold in my life time I do in that case give and devise my said House to my Executors hereinafter named and their Heirs upon Trust to sell the same and to apply the money arising from such Sale in the same manner as I have before given the Residue of my Personal Estate and I nominate constitute and appoint the before named Joseph Hisq de Chavas Abraham Levy Ximenes and David Ximenes Executors of this my Will hereby revoking all former and other Wills by me at any time heretofore made In Witness whereof I have to this my Will contained in two Sheets of Paper set my hand and affixed my Seal that is to say my hand to the first Sheet and my hand and seal to this second and last sheet thereof this twenty sixth day of August one thousand seven hundred and seventy two Isaac Ximenes

I desire this may be taken as a Codicil to my Will I give and bequeath to Elizabeth Taylor otherwise Shiverman named in my said Will all the ffurniture China Plate and Linen belonging to me in the Apartments in which I now live in new Ormond Street dated this 26th day of August 1772 Isaac Ximenes
