The Will of Jonathan Wyatt

 

In the Name of God Amen the first day of October in the year of our Lord God One thousand Seven hundred and Seventy I Jonathan Wyatt of the parish of Chardstock in the County of Dorset yeoman being weak of Body but of perfect Mind and Memory thanks be Given unto God therefore Do make this and devise my last Will and Testament in manner and form following, that is to say, First and principally Foreward my Soul into the hands of Almighty God who Gave it me and for my Body I commend it to the Earth to be buried in Christian and Pious manner nothing Doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the Mighty Power of God, and as touching such Worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I Give Devise bequeath and Dispose the same in the manner and form following, Imprimis I Give Devise and bequeath unto my loving Wife Twenty Shillings to be paid Monthly every Month during her life and half the indoor Goods of the house and the Money to be paid by my Executors Item I Give unto my Son Jonathan that Estate lying at Crawley called by the name of Brooms with the Wearing(?) and other Goods which I have there and also Ten pounds in Money and a Clock and a large looking Glass which is now at Bewley Item I give my Daughter Sarah Dowditch [Bowditch?] Thirty pound and her Daughter Catherine five pounds and Thomas five pounds, and her Daughter Sarah ten pounds and to be paid by my Exors Item I Give unto my Daughter Martha Starke five pounds to be paid her by my Exors Item I Give unto Jonathan Wiat Sime Son of William and Mary Simes Crawley lying in the parish of Membury in the County of Devon after his mother Mary Syme and the said Mary Symes is to pay unto her sister Joan Gundry (?) Guineas a year or to allow it in her maintenance Item I Give unto John Symes Son of William Symes forty Shillings Item I Give unto Mary Symes Sister of John Symes forty Shillings Item I Give unto Joan Symes the other Sister forty Shillings

Item I Give unto James Wiat my Eldest Son that Estate wherein I now live called by the name of Bewley with half my Indore and Outdore Goods whom I make my whole and Sole Extor of this my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this Day and your above said Jonathan Wyatt Signed Sealed and Delivered as my last Will and Testament in the presence of us the mark of Elizabeth Cock – the mark of Sam Turner – Robert Vincent(?)

 

 

This Will was proved in London the fourteenth day of December in the year of our Lord God One thousand Seven hundred and seventy before the Right Worshipful George Hay Doctor of Laws master burger or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury Lawfully Constituted by the Oath of James Wyatt the son of the deceased and Sole Executor named in the said Will to whom Administration was Granted of all and Singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said deceased he having been first sworn by Commission duly to Administer
