I Thomas Wrenn of Nobnall Green in the
Parish of Thundridge in the County of Hertford ffarmer being I
thank God of sound mind & memory do make Publish and declare my
last Will and Testament in manner following that is to say I
give and devise unto my Wife Isabella Wrenn all that my
ffreehold Messuage or Tenement with the Appurtenances situate at
Hunsdon in the County of Hertford which I purchased of my
Brother John Wrenn And also all that my ffreehold Messuage or
Tenement with the Appurtenances in the Parish of Harlow in the
County of Essex and one Croft of Land containing one Acre with
the outhouses Yards Gardens Orchards and Appurtenances which
Premises I purchased of Thomas Godfrey Burr And also all those
my Copyhold Messuages or three Tenements (formerly but one
Messuage) with the Appurtenances situate at Wareside in the
Parish of Ware in the County of Hertford which I purchased of
William Lees And also all that my Copyhold Messuage or Tenement
with the Barn Stable Outhouses Yard Garden Orchard and
Appurtenances thereunto belonging situate at Wareside in the
Parish of Ware aforesaid which I purchased of John Wrenn of
Gilston And also all that my Piece of Arable Land called Rye
ffield in the Parish of Ware aforesaid containing three Acres
more or less which I Purchased of the said John Wrenn of Gilston
To hold all and Singular the Premises hereinbefore devised with
their and every of their Appurtenances unto her my said Wife
Isabella Wrenn her Heirs and Assigns for ever Upon Trust that
she my said Wife and her Heirs shall and do as soon as she or
they Possibly can after my decease make Sale of all and Singular
the Premises both ffreehold and copyhold hereinbefore devised
either by Private Contract or Public sale together or in Parcels
as she or they shall think Proper And the Monies Arising by such
Sale or Sales I will shall be Accounted Part of and in Aid of my
Personal Estate And for effecting the sale of the said devised
Premises And for the Security of the Purchaser or Purchasers
thereof I hereby declare that the Receipts of the said Isabella
Wrenn my Wife or her Heirs shall be a good and sufficient
discharge to the Purchasers of the same Premises respectively
And that such Purchaser or Purchasers shall not be answerable or
accountable for the same or the application of any part thereof
And whereas I owe and stand indebted unto Mr Joseph White in the
several sums of Money following Viz. The sum of One hundred and
forty Pounds upon Bond the sum of ffifty Pounds upon some other
Bond and the Sum of ffifty three Pounds upon a Ballance of
Accounts lately stated between us (which said several sums are
exclusive of the sum of ffive hundred pounds for which he has
Securities from my ffather and myself) Now I do hereby subject
and charge all my ffreehold Messuages Lands Tenements and
Hereditaments whatsoever and wheresoever with their
Appurtenances (except those directed to be sold as aforesaid) to
and with the Payment of the said Several Sums of One hundred and
forty Pounds ffifty Pounds and ffifty three Pounds so due to the
said Joseph White as aforesaid and also with the sum of two
hundred pounds which I owe to my Brother in Law George Phelps
.... on Bond And I do likewise charge my Personal Estate with
the Payment of the said Several Debts to the said Joseph White
and George Phelps and subject and chargeable as aforesaid I give
and devise All my said ffreehold Messuages Lands Tenements and
Hereditaments whatsoever and wheresoever with their
Appurtenances (except those directed to be sold as aforesaid)
unto my Son George Wrenn his Heirs and Assigns for ever And I
direct that my said Wife shall carry on my ffarm and business
for the benefit of my ffamily and herself for the term of Six
Years to commence from my decease And from and after the
expiration of that Period I give and bequeath all my ffarming
Stock Goods Chattels Moneys and Personal Estate whatsoever and
wheresoever unto my said Wife Isabella Wrenn and my said Brother
in Law George Phelps Upon Trust that they shall and do by the
Interest and Produce thereof Pay to my said Wife during her
natural Life a Clear Annuity or Yearly Sum of twenty Pounds to
commence from the quarter Day next before the expiration of the
said Six Years Period of my said Wife’s carrying on the Business
of the said ffarm and subject to the said Annuity I give all my
ffarming Stock Goods Chattels Moneys and Personal Estate
whatsoever and wheresoever unto and equally amongst all my
Children that shall be living at the Expiration of the said Six
Years share and share alike And I constitute and appoint my said
Wife Isabella Wrenn and the said George Phelps Executors of this
my Will and I revoke all former Wills and I declare this to be
my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I the said Thomas
Wrenn has to this my last Will and Testament contained in this
and the two Preceding Sheets of paper set my hand and seal the
twenty first day of June in the Year of our Lord one thousand
seven hundred and eighty five Thos Wrenn
