In the Name of God Amen I JOHN WHYTELL of
Potting and Wintring Garths in the Parish of Grinton and County
of York yeoman being thro' the mercy of God tho' weak in body
yet of a sound and perfect understanding and memory do consitute
this my last will and testament and desire it may be received by
all as such. Imprimis I most humbly bequeath my Soul to God
beseeching his most Gracious acceptance of it. I give my Body to
the Earth in full assurance of its resurection from thence at
the last Day : as for my Burial I desire it may be decent at the
discretion of my Executors hereafter mentioned As to my worldly
estate I will and positively order that all my debts be paid.
Item I give and bequeath to my sister MARY
FRYER £5,
I give and bequeath to ROBERT WHYTELL the
son of WILLIAM WHYTELL £1
and also to HENRY WHYTELL son of WILLIAM
WHYTELL £5
and also to JOHN WHYTELL son of WILLIAM
WHYTELL £5
and also to CHRISTOPHER WHYTELL son of
WILLIAM WHYTELL £4
and also to MARY NICHOLSON wife of JOHN
NICHOLSON £1
and also to JAMES WHYTELL son of ROBERT
WHYTELL £5
and to MARGARET and HANNAH SMITH daughters
of CHRISTOPHER SMITH £1 each
and also to MARY daughter of FRANCIS FRYER
£1
and also to MARGARET CLARKSON daughter of
ROBERT WHYTELL £1
and also to the four sons of FRANCIS
FRYER JAMES, MATTHEW, JOHN and WILLIAM 1 shilling each
and also ANN TURNER wife of SAMUEL TURNER
£1
and also to MATTHEW SMITH son of
CHRISTOPHER SMITH 1 shilling
and also to my dear brother ROBERT WHYTELL
1 shilling
all which said legacies I will and
require be not payable till six months after the decease of my
dear and loving Wife willing and desiring that she may have the
Interest of the said several sums and legacies during her
natural life for her Maintenance.
I will and bequeath to JAMES WHYTELL and
JOHN WHYTELL all my household furniture willing the the money
arising from such goods be converted to the maintenance of my
Wife during her natural life and provided the Interest to the
said Legacies and personal estate fall short of maintaining my
wife in a decent manner I will that each person to whom the
above legacies are bequeathed pay out of the principal money
towards her maintenance in proportion to the particular sums
above mentioned what is sufficient for her maintenance And I do
conistitute JAMES WHYTELL and JOHN WHYTELL executors of this my
last will and testament and trustees for my wife. In Witness
whreof I have hereunto set my Hand and seal the 21 March 1755
