The Will of Thomas Whittingstall

 

In the name of God: Amen: the twentieth day July 1611. I Thomas Whittingstall of Kelshall in the countie of Herts and of the Diocs (Diocese) of Lincolne yeoman, being _______ in bodie but of good and perfect memorye, praysed be God, doe make and ordane this my last will and testament in manner and form: followinge ffirst I comend my soule into the hands of Almighty God my Heavenly ffather Redeemer and Saviour and my bodie to be buried at the discretion of my executor Item I give and bequeath thirteene shillinges fower (four) pence to the post of the poorer sorte of people in Kelshall yearlie duringe the part of tenne yeares next after my decease to be distributed unto them the first Sundaye in Lente by the handes of the churchwardens for the tyme beinge Item I give to everie one of my godchildren a sheepe or else three shillinges fower pense at their choice within one yeare after my decease, Item I give unto my daughter Margerie twentie shillinges yearlie duringe the tyme of tenne yeares next after my decease Item I give to Edward Willmott John Willmott and Agnis Willmott the children of William Willmott my sonne in lawe to everie one of them severallie three poundes of lawfull English money to be payd unto them by my executor when they and everie one of them shall accomplish the age of one and twentie yeares Item I give to Joane and Ellen Whittingstall my brother Raphe his daughters ffortie shillinges a piece to be delivered unto them at the daye of their mariages or when they accomplish the age of one and twentie yeares Item I give and bequeath to my sonne Thomas and to his hearte for ever woodcrose1 or Horwill wood and one close of pasture adjoining there to ________ by estimation 11002 acres more or less Item I give to my youngest sonne James three hundred poundes of lawfull English money to be payd unto him and to his use by my executor within three yeares after my decease and if yt shall happen that my ____ sonne James doe departe this life in the tyme of his minoritie before he accomplish the age of one and twentie yeares then my will and meaninge is that Thomas my second son shall enjoye and possesse that legacie of three hundred poundes with all the benefitt and increase thereof Al be yt Thomas departe this life in the tyme of his nonage then my will and meaninge is that John my eldest son shall have and enjoye the same legacie of three hundred poundes with the benefitt and increase thereof Item I give and bequeath unto Diones my lovinge wife all the rest of my freehold landes and tenements in Kelshall togeather with all ______ profitts and comodities anywaits belonginge unto the same tymber and tymber _____ growinge uppon the premissis only excepted in regarde and consideration as well as the bringing up of my children as in keepinge of my howse and all other buildinges in sufficient reparations duringe the nonage of my eldest sonne John and three monthes after that is to say until the feast of St Michaell Tharrhanghell3 next after he shall accomplish the age of one and twentie yeares And then I give yt to my sonne John to his hearte for ever The rest of my goodes and chattells moveable and unmoveable my debts payd and my funeralle discharged I give to my lovinge wife Diones whome I make the sole executor of this my last will and testament In witnes whereas I have ___ to my marke.
