The Will of Joseph Greenhow Walker
This is the
last Will and Testament of me Joseph
Greenhow Walker of Whitehaven in the
County of Cumberland Ship Chandler
(that is to say) I will order and
direct that all my just debts
funeral and testamentary expences be
in the first place fully paid and
satisfied And I give and bequeath
all and singular the household
furniture books linen and wearing
and other apparel plate china glass
wines liquors and all other the
goods and effects of a like sort or
kind which I shall be possessed of
at the time of my decease unto my
dear Wife Hannah Walker her
executors administrators and assigns
absolutely to and for her own proper
use benefit and disposal And I also
give devise and bequeath all and
every my real estate and effects
whatsoever and wheresoever And the
residue of my personal estate and
effects stock in trade and property
whatsoever and wheresoever which I
may now or at any time hereafter be
entitled unto by virtue of any deed
settlement Will or Codicil unto my
said Wife for and during the term of
her natural life and so long only as
she shall continue my Widow and
unmarried with full power to collect
and get in all book and other debts
owing to me at the time of my
decease to dispose of my said stock
in trade and call in and compel as
soon as possible after my decease
payment of all such parts of my
personal estate and effects as
consist of money out upon security
at interest or otherwise (except
only money in the public funds) and
stand possessed of the same for the
support of herself and the
maintenance and education of my
children during their respective
minorities and in case it should be
deemed expedient and proper for my
said Wife to carry on the trade or
other business in which I may be
engaged at the time of my decease
and to discontinue the same at her
pleasure Provided always in case of
the death or second marriage of my
said Wife whichever shall first
happen I give devise and bequeath my
said real and personal estate and
effects unto and amongst and between
such of my said children as shall be
living at the time of my decease or
within due time afterwards born
share and share alike as tenants in
common as and when he she or they
shall attain his her or their age or
respective ages of twenty one Years
and the part or share parts or
shares of such of them as shall be a
daughter or daughters to be paid to
her or them at her or their age or
respective ages of twenty one years
or day or respective days of
marriage whichever shall first
happen And lastly I appoint my said
Wife so long as she shall continue
my Widow and unmarried Executrix of
this my Will and Guardian of the
persons and fortunes of my said
children hereby revoking all former
and other Wills by me at any time
heretofore made and declaring this
only to be my last Will and
Testament In Witness whereof I have
to each sheet of this my Will
(contained in two sheets of paper
subscribed my name and to this last
sheet affixed my seal also this
twenty first day of September in the
year of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and thirty six
