WILL OF FRANCIS
WAKEMAN of Ribbisford, Hereford
Dated 19 Aug 1626
In the name of God, Amen I ffrancis
Wakeman of Bewely of the parish of Rillisford [Ribbisford] and
Dioces of Hereford Cong? being sicke in body but of sound and
perfect memory thanks bee vnto god therefore Doe make this my
last will and testament (the nintenth daie of August Ano Dm One
thousand sixe hundred twentie sixe and in the second yeare of
the Raigne of our Soveraigne Lord Charles of England Scotland
ffrannce and Ireland being defendor of the faith (in
manner and forme following) Imp I commend my Soule into the
hands of the lord Jesus by whose death and meritts I beleeve the
remission of all my sinnes and the enioying of everlasting
happines in the kingdome of heaven and my body to bee interred
in christian buriall in hope of a ioyfull resurrection (by the
vertue of Christ resurrection to life eternall It [Item] I give
vnto my Sonne Samuell my best brasse pott excepting
one[,] and ten pounds of lawfull english money to bee delivered
and paid to him by my Executor when he shall
accomplish the age of fower [4] and twentie yeares and if he dye
before the said tyme then my will is that the tenn pounds shalbe
equally devided among all the rest of my Children then living
It [Item] I give my Sonne Joseph my best brasse pott and
twentie two pounds of lawfull english money to bee paid [unto
him] by my Executor when he shall accomplish the age
of twentie and one yeares and if he dye before the said tyme
then my will is that the xxij£
shalbee equally devided amongst all my Children then
living Item I give and bequeath to my Daughter Priscilla
forty two pounds to bee paid vnto her by my Executor
at two seaverall tymes viz the one halfe of it within sixe
months after my decease and the other halfe at the end of the
yeare after my decease Item I give to my Daughter Ann
Wakeman my biggest brasse pann apaire of flaxon sheets on
Towell on pillowbeere two pewter dishes halfe of adozen of
napkins and forty fower pounds of lawfull english mony to bee
paid vnto her when she shall accomplish the age of sixteene
yeres concerning wch legacy of forty fower pounds my
will is that twenty pounds thereof being now in the hands of my
Sonne in lawe William Davies of Glocester ?? shall
remaine wth him till my Daughter Ann Accomplish the
age of sixteene yeares Provided that the said William Davies
enter into bond and give sufficient security to my Executor
for the paying in of the said xx£ when my daughter
Ann comes to the age of sixteene yeares and if my Executor
bee careles of the takeing securitie for the payment of it then
he to pay it at the tyme appointed to my Daughter Anne And for
the other xxiiij£ parte of the fower and fortie
pounds my will is that it remaine in the hands of my Executor
till my daughter Ann accomplish the age of sixteene yeares And
my will alsoe is that my Executor shall paie yearely to my
Daughter Martha or her husband William Davies the some of xx£
towards the maintenance of my Daughter Ann soe long as shee
shall continue wth them and not longer And if it
happen that my said Daughter Ann doe not continue wth them till
she come to the age of xvjteene yeares then my will
is that the xx£ shalbe paid yearely towardes her
maintenance where she is abiding And further my will is that if
my said Daughter Ann dye before shee accomplish the age of
sixteene yeres that then the twentie pounds in William Davies
hands shall remaine the on halfe to his wife Martha and the
other to his Daughter Sarah and the twentie foure pounds
wch is in the hands of my Executor to bee equally
devided amongst all the rest of my Children then liveing except
my Daughter Martha Davies It I give and bequeath to my
Daughter Hester my best brasse pott the best Candlesticke
a paire of fflaxon sheets a pillowbeere halfe a dozen of napkins
two pewter dishes one table cloth of fflaxon and forty fower
pounds of lawfull english money to bee payd to her when she
shall accomplish the age of sixteene yeares And my will is that
my sonne John Wakeman shall haue the tuition of my said
Daughter till she come to the age of xvjteen yeares
and if shee dye before that tyme my will is that my sonne John
shall haue twentie pound of her legacy and the rest of her
legacy given to her by this my will as aforesaid shall bee
equally devided among all the rest of my Children then living
except my Sonne John Item I give to Sarah my Daughter
wife to Richard Hubball fower pounds and I give alsoe
to Richard Hubball her Sonne xx£ wch summe
of five pounds is already in the hands of my Sonne in law
Richard Hubball Item I give to Martha my Daughter wife to
William Davies ten pounds and I give to Sarrah her daughter xx£
which seaven pounds is allready in the hands of the said William
Davies my Sonne in lawe Item I give to May the Daughter of
Johne Wowen? wch he had by my Daughter Mary three
pounds and to John his Sonne wch he had alsoe
by my said Daughter Mary three pounds more of lawfull english
money to bee delivered vnto the said John Wowe? theire ffather
at the sixe months and after my decease to bee imployed
presently by him in some lawfull manner for theire use and
benefitt till Marye the Daughter accompllish the age of sixteene
yeares & till John the Sonne accomplish the age of xxith
yeares and then to bee paid vnto them by theire ffather or
his assignes wth such lawfull profitt that maie bee
made thereof and if either of the said children should dye
before the tyme specified that then the survivor to haue the
others portion wth such benfitt as is made thereby
and my will alsoe is that my Executor shall haue the oversight
of these legacies for the good of the said Children Item I give
to John Phinley? of the wyerhill ys It I give to my Brother
John Wakeman three pounds to bee paid within two yeares
after my decease by wch sume or sumes yearely as my
Executor shall thinke fitt Item I give twentie
shillings to bee imployed for the benefitt of the poore of
Bewdly for ever att the discretion of the Bailiffe and Justice
of the said Towne for the tyme being and of my Overseers during
theire lives It I give to my Sonne John all my working tooles
and the remainder of the yeares in the lease of my now dwelling
house It the remainder of my houshold stuffe unbequeathed I
give to my Sonne John and my Daughter Priscilla to bee equally
devided betweene them It all the rest of my goods unbequeathed
wth all Cattles & Chattells whatsoever Bills bonds
debts etc I give vnto my Sonne John Wakeman and of this my last
will and testament make him my full and sole Executor
And I intreat Mr Hammond Minister and Rector of
Ribbesford Mr Hopkins of Bewdly and John Wowen my
Sonne in lawe to bee Overseers of this my last will and
testament and for theire paines I give each of them ten
shillings
