The Will of Richard Vittie

 

Will of Richard Vittie of Little Crakehall, 24 April 1621

 

In the Name of God Amen I RICHARD VITTIE of Little Cracall [ Little Crakehall] in the parish of Bedale sicke in bodie but whole in mind doe make and ordeine this my Last Will and Testament. First I bequeath my soull to amightie god my maker and redeemer and my body to the parishe church of Bedale and I bequeath and give unto ELIZABETH my wife my house with thappurtenances and the household stuff therein duringe her naturall life and after her decease I freely and absolutely give the said house with thappurtenances and all the household stuff as she received the same, to my two brethren WILLIAM VITTIE and ALEXANDER VITTIE equally betwixt them exceptinge one bedsteade with sufficient clothes for the same which I doe give to my wifes sister ALS if she be then living and is she be dead to my wife's dispose.
Also I give unto my wife's sister ALSE ten shillings.
Item I give unto my wife's brother his children 5 markes of lawful English mony.
Item I give to my brother ALEXANDER my Capp and my Sparle? [pair?] of velvet britches. And doe give to my brother WILLIAM VITTIE all the rest of my clothes except my ?...orst dublet and g... ?.... I give to WILLIAM RICHARDSON
Item I give out of my house 14 shillings yearly namely five shillings to be paid every St Thomas Day before Christmas tot he use and good of the pooer of the parishe of Bedall and the other ?...? shillings to the poor of the parish of Massam [Masham] every Good Friday after my decease and the same to be delivered to the Church Wardens and Overseers yerely to the said several parishes.
Item whereas ALS CASON (MASON?) doth father a child uppon me if she continue in the same minde at the birth thereof, then I doe give unto the said childe towards the bringing up of the said childe fortie shillings. And I doe make ELIZABETH my wife and ALEXANDER my Brother Executors of this my Last Will and Testament In witness whereof I sett my hand the day and year first above written.
