The Will of Rachel Vernon

 

This is the Last Will and Testament of me Rachel Vernon of Old Swinford in the County of Worcester Widow Imprimis I give unto the four youngest Sons of my late Brother ffrancis Humfray deceased namely ffrancis Jeremiah Thomas and Samuel my Share and Interest in the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal Navigation and all Dividends due or to become due thereon to be equally divided between themI give to my said Nephew ffrancis Homfrey one hundred Pounds over and above what I have herein before given to him I give to Thomas Homfrey Son of My late Brother Thomas by Hannah Harvist one hundred and seventy Pounds and to Mary Homfray Daughter of my said Brother Thomas two hundred Pounds I give to my Nephew The Reverend ffrancis Homfray Son of my late Brother……the sum of two hundred pounds and two of my Shares in the Dudley Canal Navigation and all Interest and Dividends due and to become due thereon (being part of the four Shares standing in my Name and belonging to and in that Navigation) I give to my Sister Ann Lund Wife of Mr Samuel Lund the Sum of fifty Pounds I give to my Sister Elizabeth Kenyon Widow the like sum of fifty Pounds and to each of my Nieces namely Elizabeth Bowyer ffrances Bowyer Rachel Bowyer Mary Wigan and Catherine Wilson I give the Sum of twenty Pounds I give to the four Daughters of my Sister Jane Male namely Mary ElizabethRachel and Ann two hundred Pounds to be equally divided between them I give to my Brother in Law Mr Samuel Lund and to my Sister in Law Mrs Mary Homfray Widow of my late Brother John and to my Nieces Mrs Rachel Tapenden and Elizabeth ffry Widow the Sum of ten Guineas each to buy Rings I give to each of my five God Children and great Nephews and Nieces namely Rachel Male George Homfrey Harriet Homfray Catherine Homfray and John Addenbrooke the Sum of twenty Pounds and the Sum of ten Guineas to each of my three great Nieces Mary Barker Hannah Barker and Mary Barker I give and devise to my said Sister Jane Male and to her Heirs and Assigns All that my Messuage or Dwelling House wherein I now live with the Garden and Appurtenances to the same belonging situate in Old Swinford aforesaid and which I lately purchased of Daniel Rogers Esquire Barker I also give to my said Sister Jane Male one of my Shares in the Stourbridge Navigation and also my Share in the said Dudley Canal Navigation (being Part of four Shares standing in the Name of the Representatives of my late Sister ffrances Homfray) and all Interest and Dividends due thereon respectively at the Time of my Decease I give to my Nephew …..Homfray (Eldest son of my late Brother ffrancis) the sum of three hundred Pounds and also my remaining two Shares in the said Stourbridge Navigation and all Interest and Dividends that may be due thereon at the Time of my Decease I give to my Nephew John Addenbrooke Addenbrooke Esquire one other of my said Shares standing in my own Name in the said Dudley Canal Navigation and all Interest and Dividends that shall be due thereon at the Time of my Decease I give to my said Niece Mary Male one other of my said Shares standing in my own Name in the said Dudley Canal Navigation and all Interest and Dividends that shall be due thereon at the Time of my Decease And I direct the several Legacies given by this my Will shall be paid within six Months next after my Decease I give to the Wife of my said Nephew John Addenbrooke Addenbrooke my Gold Ring set with an Emerald and to the Wife of my said Nephew Thomas Homfray my Gold Ring set with a Ruby And all the Residue of my Estate and Effects I give to my said Sister Jane Male and appoint her Executrix of this my Will In witness whereof I the said Rachel Vernon the Testatrix have to this my Last Will and Testament contained in three Sheets of Paper to the two first Sheets Put my Hand and to this last Sheet thereof my Hand and Seal and published the same this eighth Day of March one thousand seven hundred and ninety nine Rachel Vernon
