The Will of Elizabeth Ventham

 

This is the last Will of me Elizabeth Ventham of Havant in the County of Southampton Spinster Whereby I give and bequeath unto my Servant Elizabeth Boggust if she be living in my Service at the Time of my Death the Sum of ten Pounds my large family Bible and a very handsome Suit of Mourning and also the Sum of Twenty Pounds Yearly and every Year during her Life Time Payable half Yearly out of the Dividends of my Stock in the Government ffunds Also I give and bequeath to my Aunt Ann Rose the yearly Sum of ten Payable half Yearly out of the out of the said Government ffunds or Stocks during her Life Time and should her Present Husband Charles Rose survive her I hereby direct and order the said Annuity of ten Pounds shall continue to be paid to him yearly and every Year during his Life Time in like manner as is herein before directed for Payment of the same to his Wife Ann Rose And I hereby direct and order that my Executors always leave sufficient in the said Stocks or ffunds for the Dividends arising therefrom to pay All the above mentioned Annuities during the Life Time of each respective Annuitant and when each Annuity shall cease by death of the Annuitant the Stock which was left remaining for securing the Payment thereof shall be sold and the Money thence arising divided between my Legatees hereafter mentioned in like Manner As my Other Personal Estate is herein directed to be paid and as if no such Reserve had been made for Payment of the said Annuities Also I give and bequeath to my Niece Mary Grigg my Gold Watch Mourning Ring that I had for my late Mother Garnet Ring set with two Diamonds and my worked ffire Screen Also I give and bequeath to my Niece Elizabeth Targett my best Diamond Ring and what other Rings I may be possessed of at the Time of my Decease Also I give and bequeath All my Wearing Apparel Household Goods and Plate Linen and China equally between my said two Nieces Mary Grigg and Elizabeth Targett Also I give and bequeath All other Goods Bonds Bills ready Money Securities for Money and Personal Estate of every Kind unto my friends Joseph Holloway of Emsworth in the County of Southampton Gentleman and William Smither of Havant aforesaid Gentleman their Executors and Administrators but upon Trust nevertheless that they my said Trustees or the Survivor of them his Executors or Administrators shall and do as soon after my Decease as conveniently can be call in make Sale of And Absolutely convert all and singular my said Personal Estate into ready Money and Pay the same in the following Manner (that is to say) the aforesaid Reserve excepted one fourth Part thereof to my Niece Mary Grigg one fourth Part thereof to my Niece Elizabeth Targett one fourth Part thereof in Manner following viz two hundred and ffifty pounds to my Nephew William Grigg and the Remainder of the said fourth Part put and place in Government Security and pay the Interest or Increase thereof to Elizabeth Grigg wife of my said Nephew William Grigg during her natural Life by equal half yearly Payments which Interest or Increase I hereby direct shall be paid into her own Hands and for her separate Use and shall not be subject or liable to the Debts Controul or Management of her Present or any future Husband and for which her Receipt alone notwithstanding her Coverture shall from Time to Time be a sufficient Discharge And from and after her Death then upon further Trust to pay and divide her said Part of the said Principal together with such Interest as shall be had and received for the same unto and among all and every the Children of the said Elizabeth Grigg Share and Share alike when they shall have attained the Age of twenty one Years or if any of them should happen to die before his her or their Legacies become payable then to their lawful Issue if any Also the other fourth Part of my Personal Estate I will and direct shall be improved by Interest or Increase if Circumstances should admit thereof at the Discretion of my Executors who shall have power to pay the same to my Nephew John Ventham Grigg by different Payments so much at a Time as to them or the Survivor of them his Executors or Administrators shall seem meet and Advisable and if at the Death of the said John Ventham Grigg there shall be any of this Money in Hand and remaining unpaid to him then I hereby will and direct that the whole of the remaining Money shall be paid equally among such of his Children as may then be living or his her or their lawful Issue if any or either of them if any of the said Children should happen to be then dead and I hereby direct they my said Trustees or the Survivor of them the Heirs or Executors of such Survivor shall not be liable to answer or make good any Loss or Losses which shall or may happen to or befall any Part of the said Trust Estate without their respective wilful Neglects and Defaults nor shall either of them my said Trustees be Answerable or accountable for the Acts Deeds Receipts or Disbursements of the other but each of them for his separate Acts Deeds Receipts or Disbursements And I hereby nominate constitute and appoint the said Joseph Holloway and William Smither joint Executors of this my last Will and Testament And I desire that they will have the Goodnessto bury by the side of my late dear Mother In Witness whereof I the said Elizabeth Ventham the Testatrix have hereunto set my Hand and Seal this twenty eighth Day of ffebruary in the Year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and five Elizth Ventham
