The Will of John Vaux

 

In the Name of God Amen I John Vaux the younger Citizen and Clothworker of London being very weake and indisposed in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory (praised be God for the same) Doe make and declare this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following ffirst and principally I comend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God my Creator and Preserver and of Jesus Christ my blessed Saviour and Redeemer My Body I comit to the Earth from whence it came to be decently buried according to the discretion of my loving Wife and Executrix herein after named And as touching such worldly estate and Goods as God hath been pleased to bless me withall or which I shall dye possessed of or intitled unto I give will bequeath and dispose of the same in manner following that is to say Imprimis I give and devise unto Elizabeth my said Wife her heires and Assignes for ever All and every the Messuages Lands Tenements Yards Gardens Meadows ffields Closes Orchards backsides Outhouses and Hereditaments whatsoever as well ffreehold as Copyhold which I now possess or am in any ways intitled unto situate lying and being within the Mannor of Leighton Bussard als Grovebury and elsewhere in the County of Bedford which did heretofore belong to and were the Estate and Inheritance of Thomas Veere late ffather of my said Wife and of Sarah Veere her Mother or of Jonathan Veere late Brother of my said Wife or either or any of them (all or most part of which said premises being already settled upon my said Wife during her natural life And I having lately surrendered the said Copyhold Messuages Lands Hereditaments and Premises and the Reversion and remainder thereof lying in the Mannor of Leighton Bussard als Grovebury for the use of this my Will) And whereas Nathaniel Belsham Edward Hitchin and John Harris Trustees to sell the Estate late of Henry ffuller deceased of Barton in the said County of Bedford now or late on the occupation of Samuel Marshall and ffrances Marshall Widow holden of the Mannor of Barton in le Clay in the said County by Copy of Court Roll did on or about the Tenth day of July last past before the Date of this my Will surrender into the hands of the Lord of the said Mannor all and every the Customary or Copyhold Messuages Lands and Hereditaments whatsoever late of him the said Henry ffuller within the said Mannor of Barton in le Clay particularly as mentioned and expressed in the surrender thereof made To and for the behoof of the said John Vaux and my heires and Assignes for ever according to the Custom of the said Mannor To which premises I was duly admitted as by Copy of the Court Roll of the said Mannor may appear And whereas by Indenture bearing date the said Tenth day of July last expressed to be made between me the said John Vaux the younger of the one Part And my ffather John Vaux the elder of the other part I did thereby declare or acknowledge that I and my heires would stand seized of the said premises so surrendered to me as aforesaid In Trust to permit my said ffather to receive all the rents and profits thereof to his own use during his natural life and for that purpose to make Entry and do any other Act as in the said Indenture is mentioned Now I doe give and devise all and every the said Messuages Lands Tenements and Hereditaments lying and being within the said Mannor of Barton in le Clay in the said County of Bedford (which were soe surrendered by and from the said Nathaniel Belsham Edward Hitchin and John Harris to the use of me my heires and Assignes as aforesaid) unto my said Wife Elizabeth and to her heires and Assignes for ever To the intent that she and they shall forthwith after my decease take up and be duly admitted Tennant to the said premises at her and their charge and shall and do stand seized thereof In Trust and for the use of my said ffather and his Assigns during the Term of his natural life and permit and suffer him and them to receive have and take to his and their own use or uses all and every the rents and profits thereof and to do all other things according to the purpose and true meaning of the said Indenture (he my said ffather having Paid the purchase mony for the same premises and the Lords ffine for my Admittance thereto)and after the decease of my said ffather To the use of my said Wife her heires and Assignes for ever according to the Custom of the said Mannor (the same premises being surrendered to the use of this my Will) And after Payment of my just Debts and ffuneral charges I give to my said Wife all my mony Goods Chattells and other Estate whatsoever And do make and constitute and appoint her my said Wife Elizabeth sole Executrix of this my Will And hereby make void all former Wills by me heretofore made And declare this only to be my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seal the seaventh day of June Anno Dm one thousand seaven hundred and ffourteen John Vaux
