The Will of Elizabeth Vaux

 

In the Name of God Amen I Elizabeth Vaux of the parish of St Giles without Criplegate Widow being att this time someways indisposed in body praised be God of well disposed in mind and understanding Do (for preventing all disputes touching my Estate after my death) Make and declare this my last Will and Testament in writing in manner following (That is to say) ffirst committing my Soul to Almighty God my heavenly ffather in hopes of Eternal Life and Salvation through his great mercy, and the alone meritts of Jesus Christ my Lord and Saviour, and my body to the Earth to have a Decent and Christian Interment in the Parish Church of Layton Buzard in the County of Bedford, att the discretion of my Executors herein nam’d As to all my Reall and Personall Estate, I give and devise and Dispose thereof in such manner as herein after is mentioned (that is to say) Imprimis Whereas I am lawfully and rightfully seized to me and my heirs of in and to a ffarme house and Lands with their appurtenances Situate lying and being in Byrton Clay in the County of Bedford (Being Copyhold) whereof I have made a Surrender To the uses of my last Will and Testament now being in Tenure or Occupation of one        Rands and also of in and to a ffarme House and Lands with their Appurtenances (part ffreehold and part Copyhold) that Copyhold being also Surrendred to the uses of my Will)Situate lying and being in Layton Buzard in the said County of Bedford, now in the tenure or Occupation of John Shatbolt Mary Worrall      Pratt and        Price I do hereby give devise and bequeath unto my Loving Brother Henry Clifton the elder of London Grocer, and to my nephew John West of Aylesbury in the County of Bucks Shopkeeper and to their heirs and assgnes all and every my said Copyhold and ffreehold Houses lands and Estates Situate lying and being att or in Burton Clay and Layton Buzard in the said County of Bedford with their and every of their Rights members and appurtenances In Trust with full power to make sale and disposal of the said severall Estates to any Purchaser or Purchasers att and for the best prices they the said Trustees and the Survivor of them  may and can get for the same And Upon Trust also that they the said Trustees and the Survivor of them his and their heirs Doe and shall account for, and secure and Pay All the moneys ariseing and comeing by the sale of the said Estates and also of all the Rents and Profitts thereof in the meane time ariseing and Coming to their and either of their hands and power, unto and for the only proper use and uses, person and persons herein after mentioned, and to and for no other use and uses whatsoever, (that is to Say) One full ffourth part thereof unto or for the only proper use and benefit of my nephew Henry Clifton the younger son of my said Brother Henry Clifton and his heirs or assignes One other ffourth part thereof unto or for the only proper use and benefit of my said nephew John West his heirs and assignes, One other ffourth part thereof unto or for the only proper use and benefit of my sister Mary Keene for her Life And to her Children after her in equall proportions and the other ffourth part thereof unto or for the only proper good and benefitt of my sister Agnes Woodman for her Life And to her Children after her in equall proportions Item I give and bequeath unto my said Two Sisters Mary Keene and Agnes Woodman my wearing Apparell and all my Linnen Plate and Ornaments that I have weare and in Use of that kind and as to all my personall Estate consisting in moneys Debts or Securityes I doe hereby will order and appoint my Executors thereout to pay and Discharge the severall Legayes, which I hereby give as followeth (that is to say) To Veery Woodham the Sume of ffive pounds, to Rebecca George the like sume of ffive pounds and to my said Brother Henry Clifton Senr also the sume of ffive pounds and as to all the then rest residue and remainder of my personall Estate I give and leave the same unto my nephew Henry Clifton the said John West my nephew and to my said two Sisters Mary Keene and Agnes Woodman in four equall proportions to be shared and divided part and share alike And I doe hereby nominate ordaine and appoint my said Brother Henry Clifton the elder and my said Nephew John West to be the full and sole Executors of this my Will and hereby declaring null and voyd all former Wills or Testaments by me at any time heretofore made I do hereby declare this only to stand for, and as my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I the said Elizabeth Vaux the Testatrix have to each sheet of this my Will sett my hand and seal, conteyning three sheets of paper (with this present sheet) the ffifth day of January anno Dm 1726 and in the Thirteenth year of the reigne of our sovereign Lord George over great Brittaine etc Eliz Vaux
