The Will of Thomas Vaux

 

This is the last Will and Testament of me Thomas Vaux of Dunstable which I make and ordain in manner and form following ffirst I will that all my Just Debts be fully Paid and Discharged Then I give and devise unto Hannah ffinch Miller of Dunstable Spinster and her Heirs All my Lands Tenements and Hereditaments whatsoever lying and being in the Parishes of Apsley and Wavendin in the respective Counties of Bedford and Buckingham I likewise give and devise to the said Hannah ffinch Miller and her Heirs All those my Lands Tenements and Heredits purchased of the Reverend Mr Lloyd belonging to the late Dr Crawley lying and being in the Parish of Dunstable in the County of Bedford further give and devise to the said Hannah ffinch Miller whatsoever effects I shall die possessed of excepting those hereafter excepted ..... I give and devise to Robert Goodman of Dunstable Innkeeper my Black Gelding as a mark of my ffriendship as he always expressed a particular regard for the said Gelding .... I give to Mrs Mary Chapman of Dunstable all my fflowers fflower pots Stands The I give and devise to Thomas Kirby of Dunstable Innholder one hundred pounds to be paid within six Months after my decease to be raised by the sale of any of my Estates which may Appear most convenient and not hitherto devised I likewise give and bequeath to my Uncle Mr Thomas Howard the sum of five hundred Pounds to be paid within six Months after my decease to be raised as heretofore expressed I likewise give and bequeath to my friend the Reverend Thomas Walker the Sum of one hundred Pounds to be paid as heretofore expressed as to the residue of my Expressed I ......... to revert to the Heir at Law as natural Justice dictates I likewise give to Mr John Hurst of Newport the Sum of one hundred pounds to be Paid as heretofore mentioned Lastly I nominate and appoint John Miller of Dunstable Esquire to be Executor of this my last Will and Testament and do give and devise to the said John Miller the Sum of one hundred pounds for the Trouble he must necessarily be at as Executor and so revoking former Wills by me at any time heretofore made I do declare this to be my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I the said Thomas Vaux the Testator have to this my last Will and Testament set my Hand and Seal this fifteenth Day of June one thousand seven hundred and sixty Thomas Vaux

I do declare all Monies however devised are supposed to be lawful money of Great Britain the Reason Mr Hurst’s Legacy is...... I did not recollect him till I had wrote the other part of my Will Thomas Vaux

 

27 September 1798 Administration with Will annexed to Hannah ffinch Miller the Executor John Miller dying in the lifetime of the Testator

 

20 December 1828 Administration with Will annexed of Estate left unadministered to Nathaniel Cartwright of Dunstable on behalf of Elizabeth Pratt Widow of Thomas Pratt and William Pratt the son and devisee in Trust in the Will of Thomas Pratt the Elder limited to a certain Messuage or Tenement in Tottenhoe
