The Will of Edward Vaughan
In the Name of God Amen. I Edward Vaughan of Gesail and parish Clerk of Llangedwin the County of Denbigh, being weak and far in years but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given unto God; calling into mind the mortality of my Body; and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die; Do make and ordain this my last will and testament; That is to say principally: and first of all, I give and recommend my soul into the hand of Almighty God that gave it, and my Body I recommend to the earth to be buried in decent Christian Burial at the discretion of my Executors. And as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life, I give and bequeath the same in the following manner and form. First: I nominate and appoint my Dearly Beloved Wife Margaret Vaughan, and my son Robert Vaughan to be executors of this my last Will and Testament and also I leave the two New Houses and Gardens belonging thereto at Wernole to my wife Margaret Vaughan during her Life: and the Old House and Lands belonging now thereto, to my Son Edward after my Death and his heirs for ever, and the two new Houses & Gardens to be possessed by my said Son Edward after his Mother’s Death and his heirs for ever, and my Son Edward is to pay from the said Property above mentioned; to each of his Brothers and Sisters hereunder named.
And also; The under mentioned sums to be paid by my wife and the other Executor before mentioned to seven of the above named children;
I authorise my wife to appoint and give what she pleases, of the household furniture, amongst the children after her Death. Lastly I appoint Edward Davies of Llangedwin Smith, Trustee to see that the different sums before mentioned are paid according to the intent and meaning of this my last Will and Testament, Also my Son Edward is to pay to the said Edward Davies the sum of Thirty pounds with lawfull interest for the same (according to my Note of hand dated the 7 day of November last past) And I do hereby (ratifying and confirming) this to be my last Will and Testament, In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this sixth Day of November in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and forty.
1841 October 14. Oswestry(?) Then appeared personally the within named Robert Vaughan and took the usual oath of an Executor and that the personal Estate and Effects of the testator Edward Vaughan deceased did not at the time of his death to the knowledge and belief of this Informant amount in value to Two hundred pounds. Power being reserved to the Executrix within named to prove the said Will when she may think fit. Before me Charles Scott Lingmoor Ch
