The Will of Shadrack Varney

 

This is the last Will and Testament of me Shadrack Varney of the Wood Farm in the Parish of Hemel Hempstead in the County of Hertford Yeoman I appoint my Brother Meshach Varney my Wife’s Brother James Travel & my son Shadrack Executors of this my Will & Guardians of my children jointly with my Wife Mary Smith during their minority I give unto my said Executors all my household goods furniture stock ... Effects and Personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever upon trust to pay all my just debts funeral and Testamentary expences & the Expences of mourning for my Wife & children and subject thereto to permit my Wife to enjoy the same and to receive & take the produce thereof for her life she maintaining educating & bringing up my children during their minority and my Will is that it shall be lawful for my Wife with the consent of my Executors & if they shall think proper to carry on my farming business for the better maintenance of herself & family she my said Wife in that case becoming accountable & giving security to my Executors for such parts of my property as shall be employed therein and after the decease of my said Wife I give the whole of my Personal Estate to my nine children Shadrack, Mary Ann, Elizabeth, Meshach, Ann, Ellen, Jane, George & Edward & any other children I may have equally to be divided between them share & share alike to be vested Interests in the sons at their respective ages of twenty one years and in the daughters at that age or marriage which shall first happen and if any of them die before their shares are vested the shares of them so dying as well surviving and accruing as original shall go to the Survivors And I direct that until the respective shares are vested the Interest thereof after my Wife’s decease shall be applied towards the maintenance & education of my children respectively & my will is that it shall be lawful for my Executors either during the life of my Wife or afterwards to apply any part of the Expectant share of my children to putting them apprentice to any trade business or employment or otherwise  for their preferment or advancement And I direct that my Executors shall not be answerable or accountable one for the other or for the acts and deeds of the other but each for his own acts and deeds & that they shall be allowed all their costs and expences incurred in the Execution of this my Will or otherwise relaiting thereto In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 10th day of ffebruary 1827 Shadrack Varney

Proved at London 27 March 1830 by the Oaths of Meshach Varney the Brother and James Travel two of the Executors

 

14 September 1839 further grant to Shadrack Varney

 

July 1855 Administration with Will annexed of Goods undaministered
