The Will of Edward Upfold

 

In the Name of God Amen I Edward Upfold the Elder of the Borough of Haslemere in the County of Surry Mercer being infirm in body but of sound mind memory and understanding do make and declare this my last Will and Testament in manner following first I will that all my just debts and funeral Expences be paid and discharged Also I give devise and bequeath unto my Son Thomas Upfold all that my Copyhold or Customary Messuage or Tenement Barn Garden Hereditaments and Premises with the Appurtenances situate lying and being in the Parish of North Chappell in the County of Sussex which I purchased of one William Pinn and which Copyhold Premises I have Surrendered to the use of my Will To hold unto my said Son Thomas Upfold for and during the Term of his natural life and from and immediately after his decease I leave the said Copyhold Premises to descend to my youngest Son John Upfold who will be heir to the same according to the Custom of the Manor of which they are holden Also I give and bequeath unto my said Son Thomas Upfold all my Household Goods whatsoever lying and being in and about the Dwelling house of my said Son Thomas situate in North Chappell aforesaid and also my whole Stock of Mercery Goods and Shop Goods in the Custody or Possession of my said Son Thomas To hold unto my said Son Thomas Upfold his Executors Administrators and Assigns for ever Also I give and bequeath unto my said Son John Upfold the Sum of three hundred Pounds of lawful money of Great Britain to be paid to him within six months next after my decease by my Executor hereafter named in case the Sum of three hundred Pounds he now owes me on Note of hand or otherwise be then discharged or otherwise I forgive him the said debt and Interest in lieu of such Legacy Also I give and bequeath unto my Son George Upfold One Annuity or Yearly Sum free from all Deductions whatsoever to be paid to him by my Executor hereinafter named Yearly and every year during the Term of his natural life by four quarterly Payments at the four most usual feasts or days of payment in the Year that is to say the feasts of Saint Michael the Archangel the Nativity of Our Lord Christ the Annunciation of the blessed Virgin May and Saint John the Baptist by equal Portions the first Payment thereof to be made at such of those feasts as shall happen next after my decease And Lastly all the Rest Residue and Remainder of my Goods Chattels and Personal Estate not herein before disposed of I do give and bequeath unto my Son Edward Upfold for his own use and Benefit And I do hereby make constitute and appoint my said Son Edward Upfold full and sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament and do hereby revoke all former Wills by me at any time heretofore made In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal the thirteenth day of August in the Year of our Lord One Thousand seven hundred and sixty eight Edward Upfold
