The Will of Wm Underwood of Pottern in the County of
Wilts and Diocese of Sarum
I William Underwood of the Parish of Potterne in the County of Wilts
Bricklayer do hereby revoke and make void all and every Will and Wills
Testament and Testaments by meat any time heretofore made and do make and
declare my last Will and Testament in manner following (that is to say)
First I Give and Devise unto my two Sons Philip Underwood and Anthony
Underwood All that ffreehold Ground or Close of Arrable Land called or known
by the name of Tinkers Close containing by Estimation Three Acres ( be the
same more or less)Situate lying and being in the Parish of Potterne in the
said County of Wilts now in my Possession which I lately Purchased & bought
of & from Philip Smith together with the Barn thereon Erected & built And
the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders Yearly and other Rents
Issues and Profits of all and Singular the same Premises and of every part
and parcel thereof To hold unto the said Philip Underwood and Anthony
Underwood their Heirs and Assigns To and for the only Proper use and behoof
of them the said Philip Underwood and Anthony Underwood their Heirs and
Assigns for evermore Also I Give and bequeath to my said Son Philip
Underwood the Sum of Ten Pounds of lawfull British Money to be paid to him
by my Son Anthony Underwood One of my Executors hereinafter named within two
years next after my decease Also I Give and bequeath to my Son Thomas
Underwood All that Cottage or Tenement situate in the Parish of Potterne
aforesaid now in his Possession which I lately built To hold to my said Son
Thomas as from Michaelmas Seven Years next after my decease Provided and so
that he my said Son Thomas shall have Issue of his Body then living and not
otherwise And my Will is that the mean While and until the said Michaelmas
Seven Years next after my decease he the said Thomas shall Pay to my
Executors hereinafter named the yearly Rent of and for the said Cottage
According to and in Pursuance of the Condition of a certain Bond given by
him my said Son Thomas to me Also I Give and bequeath unto my Daughter Jane
Underwood the Sum of ffifty Pounds of lawfull British Money to be paid unto
her my said Daughter Jane within two Years next after my decease by my
Executors hereinafter named Also I Give and bequeath unto my Daughter Mary
Browne the Sum of Ten Pounds of lawfull British Money to be paid unto her my
said Daughter Mary Browne by my Executors hereinafter named within two Years
next after my decease Also I Give and bequeath unto my Grandson William
Brown Son of my said Daughter Mary Brown the Sum of ffive Pounds of like
lawfull Money when and as soon as he shall attain his Age of Twenty One
Years to be then paid him by my Executors hereinafter named Also I Give and
bequeath unto my two aforesaid Sons Philip and Anthony All that Cottage
wherein I now dwell and reside situate in the said Parish of Potterne with
the Appurtenances thereunto belonging To hold to them my said Sons Philip &
Anthony their Extors Admors & Assigns for all my Term Estate & Interest
therein to come But my Will is And I do hereby Expressly Charge and declare
that my said two Sons Philip & Anthony do and shall Permit and Suffer my
said Daughter Jane to dwell inhabit and reside in the Same Cottage untill
she shall happen to Marry without giving any Consideration for the same And
as to all the rest residue & remainder of my Goods Chattles Moneys
Securities for Money Debts real and Personal Estate whatsoever and
wheresoever and of what Nature or kind soever (after my Debts Legacies &and
funeral Expences Shall be thereout first paid & discharged) I Give Devise
and bequeath the same and every part thereof unto my two said Sons Philip &
Anthony whom I make ordain Constitute and Appoint joint Extors of this my
last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and
Seal the Twenty fourth day of November in the Year of our Lord One Thousand
Seven hundred Fifty and eight William Underwood
