The Will of William Turton

 

In the Name of God Amen The fourth day of July 1760 I William Turton at the Dragoon in the Parish of Stokeprior in the County of Worcester , being sick in Body, but of good and sound Memory, thanks to almighty God and calling to remembrance the uncertain Estate of this transitory Life , and that all Flesh must yield to death, when it shall please God to call, do make constitute ordain and declare this my last Will and Testament in manner and Form following , revoking and annulling by these presents all and every Testament and Testaments Will and Wills heretofore by me made and declared either by Word or Writing; and this to be taken only for my last Will and testament and none other And first penitent and sorry from the very bottom of my Heart for my sins past, and humbly desiring to be forgiven for the same, I give and commit my Soul unto Almighty God my saviour and Redeemer in whom and by the Merits of Jesus Christ, I trust and believe assuredly to be saved, and that my Soul, with my Body at a general Day of Resurrection, shall arise again with Joy; and through the Merits of Christ’s Death and Passion, possess and inherit the Kingdom of Heaven, prepared for his Elect and Chosen, and my Body to be decently burried at the discretion of my Executor herein after mentioned. And now for the settling of my temporal Estates and such Goods Chattells and Debts as it hath pleased God, far above my deserts, to bestow upon me: That is to say, first I will that all those Debts and Dues as I owe in Right of Conscience to any manner of Person or Persons whatsoever shall be well and truly contented and paid within convenient Time after my decease by my Executor hereinafter named.
 
Item I give and bequeath to my well beloved Wife Elizth Turton all my estate Goods and Chattels to be peaceably by her enjoyed during her natural Life All which Estates, Goods and Chattels, shall at my decease be justly valued, and put out to Interest and my said Wife to live upon the Interest thereof if sufficient for her Maintenance and if not it may and shall be allowed to break in upon the Principal to compleat her subsistence, but no way to waste or embezzel the same, and still with this Proviso, that if she my said Wife shall marry again then she shall have neither Right nor Title to any thing herein before mentioned

I likewise nominate and appoint Thomas Tabernacle sole Executor to this my last Will and Testament and also entrust him to have everything preised and sold and to see the Interest thereof to his Mother Elizabeth Turton paid during her natural Life ; and also that he the sd Thos Tabernacle shall also any time within the Decease Year pay five Pounds to each of these six of my Relations viz To Thos White, Josiah White, Benjamin White, Ann White, Phobe White and Lyddia White and if any one of those Six die within the said time, that these the share of the deceased, shall be equally divided among the survivors of them, and after the decease of my Wife Elizth Turton then all the substance then left shall descend to and be equally divided between the children of Thos Tabernacle. I also leave my wearing Apparel to Thos Tabernacle senr and my Wife’s wearing Apparel to the Wife of Thos Tabernacle
 
And lastly I do hereby ratify and confirm this to be my last will and Testament and no other.
