The Will of Elizabeth Turney

In the name of
God Amen I Elizabeth Turney of
Laighton Bussard in the County of
Bedds widow the relict of William
Turney late of Laighton aforesaid
gent deceased being aged and weake
in body but of sound and pfect
memory praised bee Allmightie god
therefore and knoweing the
certaintie of Death and considering
the uncertentie of the tyme thereof
And for the better avoiding of the
temporall cares of the world when it
shall please God of his mercie to
call me thence And for the
disposeinge of that small talent wch
god of his mercie hath lent me
Revokeinge all former willes I make
and ordayne this my psent last will
and testament in manner and forme
following (that is to say) ffirst
and principally I give and bequeath
my soule into the hands of
Allmightie god my maker and of his
sonne Jesus Christ my blessed
Saviour and redeemer trusting only
thorow his pcious Death and meritts
to obtayne life eternall And my body
to the earth from whence it was
taken to be Decently buryed att the
discretion of my Executrix hereafter
named And concerning my temporall
estate I dispose as followeth Item I
give unto the poorer Inhabitants of
the towne of Eaton Bray in the
Countie of Bedds the sume of fforty
shillings to be paid unto them
within one month next after my
decease Item I give unto John
Crossley the sume of Twentie
shillings to be paid within one
moneth after my Decease Item I give
unto my kinswoman Elizabeth Bennett
the wife of John Bennett my best
Coverlid Item I give to a Minister
to preach my funerall Sermon ten
shillings Item I give unto Six
bearers nine shillings wch is
eighteen pance apiece Item I desire
my Executrix that she shall disburse
to the value of Six Pounds the Day
of my burial for my funerall
expences wch I doe dispose of to be
expended for that purpose All the
rest of my goods and Chattells
whatsoever my debts and legacyes
being paid and pformed and funeral
expences discharged I give and
bequeath unto my constant and long
acquainted freind Mrs Ann Sclater
widow whome I make sole executrix of
this my Psent last will and
testament to see my debts and
legacies paid and pformed my
funerall Expences discharged and my
body decently brought to the Earth
In Witnes whereof I have hereunto
set my hand and seale this Six and
twentieth day of May in the yeare of
our Lord god one thousand six
hundred ffiftie and seaven And
