The Will of Philadelphia Tullet
This is the last will and testament of me Philadelphia Tullet of the Three Brewers Public House Lower Road Islington in the County of Middlesex widow I direct that all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses may be paid by my executors hereinafter named as soon as conveniently may be after my decease. I give and bequeath unto and equally between my daughter Sarah Agnes Holliday and Margaret Matilda Whittaker all my wearing apparel household linen plate and I direct that the division thereof be made by my said executors I give and bequeath unto each of my executors the sum of twenty five pounds as compensation for the trouble they will have as my executors. I give and bequeath unto my son Frederick Tullet all that my leasehold messuage called the Three Brewers in which I now reside situate in the Lower Road Islington aforesaid and also all other the messuages or tenements and premises which I hold under lease with the said Public House with their appurtenances to hold the same unto him the said Frederick Tullet the executors administrators and assigns for all the residue and remainder of the term of years now to commence therein subject however to the payment by my said son Frederick of the sum of one thousand five hundred pounds unto and to form part of my residuary estate and to be divided in the same manner and to go therewith and I do hereby direct my said son Frederick to pay into the hands of my executors the said sum of one thousand five hundred pounds within twelve months after my decease All the rest and residue and remainder of my estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever including the said sum of one thousand five hundred pounds I give and bequeath the same and every part thereof to my sons Frederick and Henry and my daughters Sarah Agnes Holliday and Margaret Matilda Whittaker to be equally divided between them share and share alike. The sum of one hundred pounds lent by me to my daughter Sarah to be paid or allowed by her or otherwise deducted from her share and inasmuch as I have bequeathed unto my said son Frederick my leasehold premises in manner aforesaid I direct that he shall purchase and take by fair valuation the residue of the effects in and about my said Public House and the stock thereon in the usual manner as soon as can be after my decease. And I hereby appoint my said son Frederick Tullet and John Tullet of Tottenham Court Road Middlesex Victualler Executors of this my will dated this twentieth day of January one thousand eight hundred and fifty three. In the Prerogative Court of Canterbury in the goods of Philadelphia Tullet. Appeared personally James Milner of No. 33 ?? Street Southwark in the county of Surrey Clerk to Mr Hare of the same place solicitor and made oath that he is the ??? and one of the subscribed witness to the last Will and Testament of Philadelphia Tullet late of the Three Brewers Public House Lower Road Islington in the county of Middlesex widow deceased the same being now hereunto annexed bearing date the twentieth day of January one thousand eight hundred and fifty three And he further saith that he prepared the said will from the instructions of the said deceased by her being then confined to her bed of the illness of which she died That having completed the same he read it over to the deceased who approved thereof and Martha Watts the other subscribed witness thereto being present the said deceased being still in bed proceeded to sign her name thereto but having written her name as deponent considered very illegibly he requested her to subscribe the same again That deceased aforesaid proceeded to sign her name a second time but from weakness she failed in so doing and a short time having lapsed to allow the deceased to recover herself a little she again subscribed her name P Tullet at the foot or end of the said will immediately after her previous signatures or attempted signatures in manner as now appears in the presence of deponent and of the said Martha Watts who were both present at the same time and the said Martha Watts and this deponent thereupon respectively attested and subscribed the said will in the presence of the said testator and of each other.
