The Will of Sarah Trendell

 

In the Name of God Amen I Sarah Trendell Junr of Reading in the County of Berks being sick in Body, but of good and perfect memory, thanks be to Almighty God and calling to remembrance the uncertain Estates of this Transitory Life, in that all Flesh must yeild unto Death, when it shall please God to call, Do make Constitute, Ordain & Declare this my last Will and Testament in manner & form following, Revoking & Annulling by these Presents all & every Testament and Testaments, Will& Will s heretofore made & Declared either by Word or Writing and this to be taken only for my last Will & Testament and none other And first being Penitent & Sorry for my Sins Past most humbly desiring Forgiveness for the Same I give & commit my Soul unto Almighty God my Saviour & Redeemer in whom & by the Merits of Jesus Christ I trust & believe Assuredly to be Saved & to have full Remission & Forgiveness of all my Sins And my Body to be buried in such place and Manner as it shall please my Executor hereafter named to Appoint And now for the Settling of my Temporal Estate and such Goods, Chattells & Debts as it hath pleased God, far above my Deserts, to bestow upon me I do Order Give & Dispose the same in manner & form following (that is to say) First I will that all my Debts and Duties as I owe in Right or Conscience to any manner of Person or Persons whatsoever shall be well & truly Contented and paid, or Ordained to be paid within a Convenient time after my Decease by my Executor hereafter named

Item I Give and bequeath unto my Honoured Father & Mother Francis & Sarah Trendell of Reading in the County of Berks the Reversion of the Estate known by the Name of Lee house Land in Hartley in the Parish of Shinfield & County of Berks & now in Possession of Mrs Mary Paine Widow of Reading in the said County, and my Will is that the Reversion of Sides Estate before mentioned shall be sold at my Decease & the Money arising therefrom be put out in lawfull Interest for the use of my Father & Mother during their or either of their Life or Lives, & after their Decease the Principal money to be Distributed in manner following Vizt I give & bequeath unto my Loving Sister Elizabeth Coates The Sum of One hundred Pounds of good & lawfull money of Great Britain & to her Sons & Daughters as follows Vizt To Millisant Coates the Sum of fforty Pounds To Peach Coates the Sum of Twenty Pounds And to Sarah Coates the Sum of Twenty Pounds To my Loving Sister Ann Hawkins I give & bequeath the Sum of One hundred Pounds and to her Sons & Daughters as follows Vizt To George Paine Hawkins the Sum of Forty Pounds, To Thomas Hawkins the Sum of Twenty Pounds, To Sarah Hawkins the Sum of Twenty Pounds And to Ann Hawkins the Sum of Twenty pounds, Item I Give and bequeath all my Wearing Apparel in General to be devided between my Mother & Millisant Coates & after my Mothers Decease the said Millisant Coates to have all that shall then be Left (by my Mother)of my said Apparrell And likewise what ready money I shall have at my Decease, & what Wages shall be due to me at that time from my Unkle George Paine I give & bequeath to my Mother. My two best rings One I give to Sarah Hawkins & One to Ann Hawkins Item I Give & bequeath to my Sister Elizabeth Coates my Silver Snuff Box, One mourning Ring, & two large Silver Spoons And to her Daughter Millisant Coates A pair of Silver Sleeve Buttons, One Gold ring & my Silver Buckles. And I Give unto my Unkle George Paine One Guinea for a mourning Ring. Item I give and bequeath One Guinea to my Cosin Mary Paine for a mourning Ring. Item I give and bequeath One Guinea to Mary Aldsworth for a mourning Gound. And One Guinea to my God-daughter Catherine Huggins for a Ring. And I likewise Give Sarah Hubbles a Pair of Bath Stone Buttons set in Silver And to Mary Blandy I Give & bequeath A Stay hook with Bath stones sat in Silver And my Desire is that my Brother in Law Thomas Hawkins be my whole and Sole Executor, & that he will see every Particular of this my last Will & Testament duely & faithfully Executed Given under my hand & Seal this Eleventh day of September in the thirty third year of his Majesties Reign & in the year of Our Lord One thousand Sven hundred & fifty Nine Sarah Trender
