The Will of Joseph Travis
13 March 1720 I Joseph Travis of Whitaker within
Butterworth,Yeoman, make this my last will Whereas I now stand possesd of a
parcel of Land messuage and Tenement in Fee Simple scituate in Whitaker
purchased by me of John Scholfield formerly of Whitaker The several closes
pastures etc. called Boosteds alias Bullsteds, Great Marled Earth Little
Marld Earth Rough Hey near Meadow Great Hulm Paddock and old Garden in all
containing 16 acres of Land or thereabouts Together with one dwelling house
standing on part thereof and one old Barn belonging thereto and one Bay in
the Great Barn now in my possession which said Bay in the Great Barn I do by
these presents annex unto the above said Lands and dwellinghouse And whereas
I have lately set and unto Farm let the just now mentioned Premises unto my
second son John Travis for the time of my life Now I empower my two sons
Benjamin Travis and James Travis both now living at Scholefeild Hall within
Butterworth ( my Executors hereafter named) Trustees to receive the yearly
rent due from the said John Travis until my debts be satisfyd. After my
debts satisfyd I Give all the above- named Lands Dwellinghouse Old Barn and
one Bay in the Great Barn to my son John Travis yet he the said John Travis
my son shall pay to my son Benjamin Travis £45 and to my son James Travis
£45 and to my grandson James Travis now living at Incefeild within Walsden,
Cloathworker £45
