The Will of John Travis

 

JOHN TRAVIS of Inchfield in the Parish or Rachdale, co. Lancaster, Yeoman.
All my messuages, lands with appurtenances to George Travis my only son and his heirs, he paying to Dorothy Travis my daughter £200 in 4 years after he is 21.

If my son die before 21 all my said messuages &c to Joseph Travis my brother and his heirs, paying to my said daughter Dorothy £400 in the next four years after my son George would have been 21.
My brother Joseph to secure the £400 to the tutors of my children or two of them for my daughter’s use within two years after the death of my son.
My debts and funeral expenses to be paid, after which my goods &c be divided into three parts.
One part to Elizabeth my wife, the second to Dorothy my daughter, the third to Elizabeth my wife and Dorothy my daughter equally.
Elizabeth my wife to be sole executrix and tutor of my children, so long as she remains unmarried, if she marry again I comit the tuition of my said children and of their lands and goods to Joseph Travis, Edward Crosley, William Lawe (or Lowe?) and John Lord whom I also make overseers.

Witnesses: Nathan Frishaw ?, Thomas Stott, Simeon Lord.
Dated 31st October 1653.
