The Will of Richard Townsend

 

In the Name of God Amen I Richard Townsend Yeoman  of Aston in the County of Oxford, being weak in Body but of a sound & disposing Mind Memory & understanding do make this my Will in the manner following & First I Give Devise & bequeath to John Townsend of Aston Baker a Close lying in the parish of Bampton to him till and for his Eldest Daughter (named Elizabeth) when she is at the Age of Twenty ffive Years then to her _ her, and her Heirs & Assigns for ever.  I Likewise Give and bequeath half a Yard of Life Land (called Beesley's) with the house, Commons and all its Appurtenances thereto belonging to John Townsend of Aston Baker, during the Lives  to him & his Assigns  I Likewise Give Devise and bequeath Eleven Acres - ten of Arable & one of Meadow Ground lying in the Meadow and ffields of Bampton to William Son of John Townsend, Yeoman, Aston, during his Life  At his death I Give Devise & bequeath the same Eleven Acres of Land to John Townsend of Aston Baker to him his Heirs and Assigns for ever  I Likewise Give Devise & bequeath to my Nephew Richard Townsend of Enstone Baker A Quarter of a Yard of ffree Land lying in the Fields of Aston & Coate to him and his Heirs and Assigns for ever  I Likewise Give & bequeath to the aforesaid Richard Townsend of Enstone Baker half a Yard of Life Land (separating three Quarters of a Yard) to him and his Assigns, the other quarter belonging to the last beforementioned half Yard of Life Land  I Give & bequeath to Robert Townsend & Thomas Townsend Sons of John Townsend Yeoman of Aston, & to be equally divided between them & to their Assigns & my Will is that my Executors hereinafter named Do see take care & cause that Elizabeth Townsend (Eldest Daughter of John Townsend of Aston Baker) be continued at school to be educated two years from this said sixteenth day of June in the Year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and ninety two And I do appoint my Nephews John Townsend of Aston & Richard Townsend of Enstone Baker's to be my joint Executors of this my last Will & Testament, Appointing and Authorizing them to receive all due Rents & to pay all Funeral and other due Expences - hereby Revoking disanuling all former Wills heretofore made by me, declaring this only to be my last Will & Testament whereunto I have set my Hand and Seal this sixteenth day of June in the Year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and ninety two   Signed Sealed published and declared by the said Richard Townsend as & for his last Will & Testament in the presence of us who have subscribed our Names as Witnesses & in the presence of the said Testator and of each other

This Will was proved at Oxford on the Eighteenth day of October in the Year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and ninety two Before the Reverend John Cox Clerk Bachelor of Laws Surrogate of the Reverend Matthew Lamb Clerk Doctor in Divinity Vicar General Official Principal and Commissary of the Right Reverend ffather in God Edward by Divine permission Lord Bishop of Oxford lawfully constituted by the Oaths of John Townsend and Richard Townsend the Executors therein named to whom Admon was granted being first sworn duly to administer
