The Will of Elizabeth Townsend

 

The Last Will and Testament of me Elizabeth Townsend of Aston in the parish of Bampton in the County of Oxford Widow as follows First I give devise and bequeath to my kinsman David Watts Townsend son of Thomas Townsend of Weald in the parish of Bampton aforesaid Yeoman All that quarter of a yard of freehold land with the meadow ground commons and appurtenances thereunto belonging situate lying and being in the common fields and meadows of Aston and Coate in the parish of Bampton aforesaid (which quarter of a yard land and premises were given me by the Will of my late husband Thomas Townsend deceased ) to hold the same unto the said David Watts Townsend his heirs and assigns for ever And I give devise and bequeath unto my two kinswomen Mary Collins the wife of Joseph Collins and Elizabeth Townsend spinster (two of the daughters of the said Thomas Townsend of Weald) All that my half yard land of leasehold land situate also in the common fields of Aston and Coate aforesaid (which leasehold land was formerly held by Humphrey Lindsey deceased by lease thereof granted by Thomas Horde Esquire and was also given and devised to me by the will of my late husband deceased) to hold the said half yard of leasehold land with the commons and all other appurtenances thereunto belonging unto the said Mary Collins and Elizabeth Townsend spinster equally to be divided between them (as tenants in common and not as joint tenants) and to their respective Executors administrators and assigns as fully as I have power to dispose of the same And I nominate constitute and appoint Mr John Townsend of Coate aforesaid Yeoman and the said Thomas Townsend of Weald aforesaid Executors of this my Will and I give them each one guinea to buy a mourning ring Also I give and bequeath unto Sarah Townsend the now wife of the said Thomas Townsend of Weald all my household goods and furniture of household, plate linen and all my wearing apparel of all sorts for her own use All the rest and residue of my personal estate ready money debts owing and all other my Estate not herein before by me disposed of I give and bequeath the same and every part thereof unto my before named Executors and Trustees Upon trust to be by them or the survivor of them got in and received as soon as conveniently may be after my decease and by them or the survivor of them divided into four equal parts or shares, one equal fourth part or share whereof I will and direct to be by my Trustees and Executors or the survivor of them delivered to the said Thomas Townsend of Weald for the use and benefit of him and his several children and to be by him divided amongst his children as he shall think fit and the other three fourth parts or shares thereof I will and direct to be by my said Trustees and Executors or the survivor of them delivered to my brother in law John Townsend of Aston aforesaid Yeoman for the use of himself and his several children and to be divided between them at his discretion and as he shall think fit and I hereby revoke and make void all former and other wills by me at any time heretofore made and declare this only to be my present last Will and Testament In witness whereof I have to this my will contained in two sheets of paper to the first sheet set my hand and to the second sheet my hand and seal the thirteenth day of October in the Year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and one Elizth Townsend her mark X Signed sealed published and declared by the said Elizabeth Townsend the testatrix as and for her last will and Testament in the presence of us who at her request and in her presence and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as witnesses thereto

This Will was proved at Oxford on the twentieth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and two before the Reverend William Collins Clerk Master of Arts Surrogate of the Reverend George Turner Clerk Master of Arts Official Principal of the Reverend Archdeacon of Oxford lawfully constituted by the Oaths of Thomas Townsend and John Townsend the Executors therein named to whom Admon was granted being first sworn duly to administer
