The Will of John Toop

 

This is the last Will and Testament of me John Toop of Trill within the Parish of Beerhackett in the County of Dorset, Yeoman.  First I direct and Appoint my Executor hereinafter named to pay and allow unto my Wife Elizabeth the Sum of four pounds and four Shillings to be paid her by four quarterly payments the first payments to begin in a quarter of a year after my Decease (except as hereinafter is mentioned) Also I give Devise and Bequeath unto my said Wife Elizabeth my Cottage and Backside I hold by Lease at Bradford Abbas in the County aforesaid for and during the Term of her natural Life and from and after her Decease I Give Devise and Bequeath the same unto her Daughter Martha her Heirs and Afsigns.  Also I Give and Bequeath unto my Son Robert the Sum of Ten pounds to be paid him by my said Executor in a twelve Months after my Decease.  Also I give and Bequeath unto my Son John the Sum of five pounds and five shillings to be paid in Manner as aforesaid.  Also I give and Bequeath unto my Sons George and Thomas and Daughter Elizabeth the Sum of one Shilling apiece.  Also I Devise and Bequeath unto my Daughter Ruth my Dwellinghouse Garden and two Orchards situate within the Parish of Rhyme in the County aforesaid on her paying the Sum of Ten Guineas to me or my Executor by the Twenty fifth day of March next.  To hold to her her Heirs and Afsigns for ever.  Also I give and Bequeath unto my said Wife all my Household Goods and Implements of Household (except my cupboard my little chest five Batts and all my Dairy Utensils)  Also I give and Bequeath unto my Wives Daughter Martha all my Bees and also I give and Bequeath unto my Son William my Ground called the Three Corner Ground (now planted to an Orchard) and also my three Meadows called the Trull Meads which I formerly purchased of one Beer on his paying my said Wife the aforesaid Legacy of four pounds and four Shillings to Hold to him his Heirs and Afsigns And my Will and Meaning is that an Inventory of all my Stock Cyder Mill and Prefs with the Utensils thereto belonging be made and the same disposed of immediately at the best price And the Overplus (if any) after paying the Legacies before mentioned and all my just Debts and Funeral Expenses I direct that the same be paid to my Wifes Daughter Martha and my Will and Meaning further is that if it shall happen that either of the Lives should drop in the Life Times of my said Wife by which the three Meads called the Trull Meads are held then I direct that my Son William shall pay my said Wife afterwards during her Life only the Sum of two Guineas Yearly to be paid Quarterly and Lastly I nominate Constitute and Appoint my said Son William Executor of my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereto set seal this Twenty nineth Day of January in the Year of our Lord One Thousand seven hundred and Eighty.
