In the Name of God Amen the 31 December 1626 I
NICHOLAS TIPPINGE of Hornby in the Countie of Yorke yeoman sicke in
bodie but whole in mind and of good and perfect remembrance prayse
be God doe ordeine and make this my last will and testament in
manner and forme following. First and principallie I doe freely give
and commend my soule unto Almightie God my onely savoure maker and
redeemer and my Body to be buried in the churchyard of Hornby in
hope of Resurection unto eternal Life. Then it is my will and I
freely give and bequeath all my lands in Arrathorne unto FRANCIS
MARSHALL son of JOHN MARSHALL of West Appleton to him and his heires
forever provided all waies that the said FRANCIS MARSHALL shall pay
unto JOHN GIBSON of the Citie of London silke weaver the whole and
just some of £20 when the yeares of his Apprenticeship are expired.
Item I give and bequeath unto FRANCIS MARSHALL
aforesaid one ?lease? which I have from the worshipfull JOHN
ALLERTON [or ATTERTON]of ALLERTON with in the Countie of Lancaster
and KATHERINE his wife one of the daughters and heiresses of JOHN
late Erl CONYERS JOHN ATTERTON sone of heir of the said KATHERINE in
?....? I ?....? for thirtie and three yeares of the Annuall yeares
rent of 17 shillings and 9 pence.
Item I give and bequeath unto my sister
DOROTHY MARSHALL one ?..? granted from ?....? ATTERTON, KATHERINE
his wife and JOHN ATTERTON for GEORGE CARNABY of Hornby yeoman and
granted by the said GEORGE CARNABY to me and my assigne which I
grant unto DOROTHY MARSHALL wife of JOHN MARSHALL of West Appleton
and to her Assigns of the Annual or yearly rent of 5 shillings and 4
pence.
Item whereas I have a bond of £40 ?....? unto
me by WILLIAM ROBINSON of Ellerton and ROGER ROBINSON of Hackforth
My Will and mind is that it shall remaine for ever to the use of the
poore vizt to foure of the poorest widdowes in Hornby parish 24
shillings to the poore of the towne of Bedall 20 shillings to the
poore of the towne of Massam [Masham] 20 shillings yearely forever.
And I ordeine and appoint JOHN MARSHALL of West Appleton my Brother
in lawe, JO FAUEL my kinsman, CHRISTOPHER MARSHALL and CHRISTOPHER
ASCOUGH of Massam [Masham] Feoffees in Trust for that purpose. And
at such time as anyone of the Feoffees shall die the other
?diveinge? shall put and appoint another sufficient man in his
place.
Item I give to MARMADUKE PLACE's children of
Hackforth 10 shillings a peece.
Item I give to Mr NEWBOURNE for preachinge at
my Funeral buriall 20 shillings.
Item I give and bequeath unto ELIZABETH GIBSON
my sister's daughter £5 6s 8d owne unto me by JOHN CALVERT.
