The Will of Castle Thorpe

 

In the Name of God Amen I Castle Thorpe of the Parish of St Dunstan in the East Wine Merchant being in sound state of Mind & Memory do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following Imprimis I humbly recommend my Soul to the mercy of Almighty God that gave it and my Body I desire may be decently interred in the Parish where I die in a very private manner Item I give and bequeath unto my dearly beloved Wife Elizabeth Thorp after payment of my just Debts all my Personal Estate and Effects of what nature and kind soever save and except twenty Guineas for Mourning and my Watch to my dear Brother Samuel Thorpe and ffive Guineas for a Ring to my ffaithful friend Thomas Slack of Gravel Lane Sugar Refiner as a remembrance of the sincere friendship I have Long entertained for him Item I do by these presents make constitute and appoint my said Wife Elizabeth Thorp and my Brother Samuel Thorp jointly to be Executrix and Executor of this my last Will and Testament – In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 19th day of January 1778 Castle Thorpe
