In the Name of God Amen I ROBERT THOMPSON of
Carperby in the County of York Fellmonger being of sound and perfect
mind and memory do make and constitute and ordain this my Last will
and Testament in manner and form following First I give and bequeath
unto my beloved wife DOROTHY my new dwelling house and new house end
and Calgarth and also all that close called ?Snab? to hold the same
during the term of her natural life and after her decease I give the
same to my son JOHN to hold the same to his heirs etc ...
I also give my household goods to my said wife
during her life but after her decease I give the same to my
daughters DOROTHY and MARGARET and my granddaughter THOMASIN equally
amongst them. I also give to my daughter MARGARET the sum of £27 to
wit £10 within 12 months after my decase and the other £17 at the
decease of my wife.
I also give to my granddaughter THOMASIN £15
to be paid at the decease of my wife if she be then living but if
not I bequeath the said sum to my daughter DOROTHY her mother if
then living but if not I bequeath the same to her children which
shall be then living equally amongst them.
I also give to my son RICHARD now supposed
beyond seas the annual sum of £1 during his natural life if he come
annually and personally to demand it but not otherwise.
I also give to my four granddaughters
daughters of my son GEORGE deceased each of them the sum of £2 as
they shall severally attain the age of 21 years.
I also give to my daughter DOROTHY at the
decease of my said wife the sum of £14 all of which said legacys
hereby bequeathed I order my son JOHN to pay oiut of my estate ...
and also the keeping of his mother and the house in repair with
Thatch during her natural life and also to finding a horse when she
shall have herself occasion to use one all the rest of my estate
whatsoever hereby not disposed of I give to my said son JOHN and
make him sole executor ... In witness whereof I have hereunto set my
hand and seal this 9 October 1744
