NB this is Constable Burton near Leyburn in
the North Riding of Yorkshire, even though in the will he writes
Burton Constable. There is a place called Burton Constable in the
East Riding of Yorkshire.
In the Name of God Amen I GEORGE THEAKSTON of
Burton Constable [Constable Burton] in the parish of Fingall in the
County of York, schoolmaster, being in perfect health of body and of
a perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God for the same but
calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is
appointed for all men once to die I do therefore make and ordain
this my Last Will and Testament that is to say principally and first
of all I give and recommend my soul into the Hand of Almighty God
that gave it and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in
decent Christian burial at the discretion of my heirs nothing
doubting but at the general Resurection I shall receive the same
again by the Almighty Power of God and as touching such worldly
effects wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life
I give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and
form that is to say first I give and bequeath to my beloved son
THOMAS THEAKSTON the sum of £10 lawful money of England to be drawn
out of £100 stock in the 3% Bank of England as purchased in by Mr
Priestman clerk to the Old Richmond Bank I likewise give and
bequeath to my forsaid son THOMAS THEAKSTON all my stock of wearing
apparel stock of drugs in the doctring line within my press in the
kitchen and all my books concerning doctring. I likewise give and
bequeath to my beloved grandson FRANCIS THEAKSTON a metal watch when
he arrives at the age of 21 years to be under his mother's care till
he comes fo age. I likewise give and bequeath to my beloved son
JAMES THEAKSTON the sum of £10 ... I likewise give and bequeath to
my said son JAMES THEAKSTON a gold ring set with a stone called a
Cat's Eye and enclosed round with Brilliants likewise my large Bible
and two large silver table spoons and appoint make and ordain my
foresaid two sons THOMAS THEAKSTON and JAMES THEAKSTON my two
executors in trust of this my last will and testament I also give
and bequeath to my son CHRISTOPHER THEAKSTON the sum of £10 ... to
be paid by my executors within one year after my decease I likewise
give and bequeath to my said son CHRISTOPHER my light day clock
standing in the kitchen I also give and bequeath to my beloved
daughter ELIZABETH wife of JAMES PHILIPS the sum of £10 ... with six
silver teaspoons I likewise give and bequeath to my said daughter
JANE wife of NATHAN HESLOP the sum of £10 .... I also give and
bequeath to my said daughter JANE all the rest and residue and
remainder of all my household furniture of what kind or sort soever
they may be her sister having received her share of the furniture
after her marriage nevertheless I shall give a few things to MARY
RIPLEY as she may have a room to furnish after my decease which are
as follows viz. I give and bequeath to the said MARY RIPLEY the sum
of £5 one month after my decease in case she be living otherwise to
be equally divided amongst my five children above named share and
share alike I likewise give and bequeath to her one round Turnd
Table with three legs that we Breakfast upon with her choice of one
of the armed chairs and other two of the kitchen chairs two small
pans, 1 Brass and the other iron 1 tea kettle pair of bellows a pair
of ?....nters Tongs and fire shovel cowlrake spooncase my larger
looking glass box iron and heaters a square iron stand to set before
the fire one of the old family pictures of a woman hanging in the
parlour a stuff quilt for bed cover one sheet and a pair of pillow
covers old fender and iron poker old iron candlestick and washing
tub old range in school chamber one warming pan one sauce pan and
tea kettle likewise to pay her £2 towards furnishing a room all
which legacies and I expect to be duly and honestly discharged so
help you God ... In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and

of Thomas Theakston the son of one of the executors, power reserved
