The Will & Inventory of Thomas Taylor

 

In the name of God Amen the Eight day of Novemb’r in the 22nd yeare of the Raigne of Our Sov’aigne Lord King Charles the second Over England etc.  And in the yeare  of Our Lord God 1670  I Thomas Taylor of Hadddocke in the County of Lancs., yeoman Being Infirme & Weake in body But of sound & p’fecte memory (Prayse bee Given to God for the Same) And Knowinge the uncertainly of This Life on Earth & Being desirous to settle Things in Order doe Make this my Last Will & Testam’t in manner & forme followinge That is to say first & principally I Commend my Soule to Almighty God my Creator Assuredly Behevinge that I shall Receave full Pardon & free Remission of All my sinnes & Bee Saved by the precious death & meritts of my Blessed Saviour & Redeemer Christ Jesus And my Body to the Earth from Whence it was taken to Be Buried in such decent & Christian manner as to my Ex’rs hearafter named shall bee thought meete & Convenient And as Touchinge such Worldly Estate as the Lord in mercy hath Lent mee  My Will & meaninge is the same shall bee Imployed & Bestowed as Hearafter By This my Will is Expressed And I doe Revoke renounce frustrate & make void All Wills By mee formerly made & declare & appoynt this my Last Will & Testam’t first my Will & Mynd is that my debts & funerall expennces bee Truly dischardged & Paid out of my Whole Goods  Item then my Will & Mynd is that the Rest of my Goods shall Bee divided into Three equall p’ts Wherof One p’te I Give to Cathrin my Wif e to her owne p’pose  Item the other Tow p’ts I Give & Bequeath to my Tow younger Children namely Thomas & Henry to bee equally devided Betweene them And to Bee  deliv’ed unto them When they shall attayne & come to the Age of 21 yeares or els bee marryed And if it fortune that any of my said Children doe decease Before they Accomplish their said Ages And before that tyme bee not Marryed Then I Bequeath his p’t soe deceasinge to the other then surviveing And as Touchinge & Concerninge A Certayne demise & Grante hertofore made & p’fected unto mee by Rich’d Legh of Lyme Esq’re of One Messuage & Tenem’t Where I now Live My Will & Mynd is That Cathrin My said Wife shall possesse & enioye the same for the Educa’con of my said Children untill John my Eldest Sonne shall attayne the Age of 21 yeares she the said  Cathrin & othermy Ex’rs hearafter named dec...tinge raysinge & Reservinge the yearly Sume of five Pound out of the issues & profitts of the said Messuage & Tenem’t for soe many yeares as shall happen Betweene the death & Naturall decease of mee the said Thomas Taylor & the tyme th’t John my Eldest sonne shall attayne the Age of 21 yeares exceptinge Three of the first yeares to Be equally devided Betweene my younger Children toward their por’cons & p’ferm’t  Item my Will & Mynd is that when John my Eldest sonne shall Attayne the Age of 21 yeares That then hee the said John shall enter upon Have hold occupy & enioy the One halfe of My said Messuage & Tenem’t to him & his heires Hee the said John Truly sattisfyinge Payinge & dischardginge for the Same the full & Just Some of Threescore & Tenn Pound Att or W’thin tow yeares after hee shall soe attayne his said Age & Bee Actually possessed therof to Bee equally devided betweene my Tow younger Children as aforesaid  Item for the Considra’con of p’t of the aforsaid some I Give & Bequeath to my sonne John one ciled Bedsteed one frame Board & one Great Arke All standing in the Parlor One Cubbard & dishboard one frame Board in the House w’th Tow fyre Greates in the house & parlor to continue for his use And further my Will & Mynd is that Cathrin my said Wife shall Hould & enioy the other halfe of the said Messuage & Tenem’t duringe the Terme of her naturall Life if shee Keepe herselfe Chast & unmarryed & in the Terme in the said Indenture of Lease soe Long continue Provided Alwayes And my Will & mynd is That if Cathrin my said Wife happen to marry or miscarry That then shee the said Cathrin clearly relinguish & Release All her Right Tytle & Intreaste of my Whole Messuage & Tenem’t & other the p’misses whatso’r Lyinge or beinge in Haddocke aforsaid shee Haveinge the yearly Sume of five Pound from the messuage & tenem’t aforesaid duringe the Terme of her naturall Life  If the said Indenture of Lease soe Long Endure  Item my Will & mynd is That if my sonne John dep’te this Life w’thout Lawfull issue that then the said Messuage & Tenemen’t shall discend & come to Henry my Second sonne in Manner & forme as aforsaid to John Exceptinge that hee the said Henry shall but dischardge & pay the sume of forty Pound to Thomas my youngest Sonne Item my Will & Mynd is that if my sonne Henry dep’t this Life Before John shall attayne the Age of 21 yeares that then the said John shall but pay the sume of forty Pound in stead of the Sume w’th in men’coned And of this my p’sent Testam’t I ordayne constitute & Make Cathrin my Wife & my kinsman Thomas Taylor of Kenion my Lawfull Ex’rs to execute & p’forme the same And I desire Edward Lowe my Brother in Law & Gilbert Bankes of Haddocke to bee ov’seers hearof In Wittness Wherof I have hearunto put my hand & seale the day & yeare first above Written
