In the Name of God Amen I Judith Sykes of the
Parish of Saint Andrew Holborn in the County of Middlesex Widow
being of Sound Mind and Memory do make this my last Will and
Testament in manner following first I humbly resign my Soul into the
Hands of Almighty God hoping for the Remission of all my Sins
through the Merits of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and my Body I
commit to the Earth to be decently interred in a Private manner and
I desire that it may be buried in the same Grave with the Remains of
my dear Husband Deceased at Hornchurch in the County of Essex and
that Six Poor Men of Hornchurch aforesaid do carry my Body to the
Grave for which I do hereby give them two Shillings and Six Pence
each and as to my Worldly Goods and Estate wherewith God hath
blessed me I give the same as followeth first my Will and desire is
that all my just debts the Expences of my ffuneral and also a Debt
due from my late Husband to one Mr Ireland an Ironmonger be fully
Paid and Satisfied out of my Estate also I give and bequeath to my
dear Daughter Judith Levitt Widow all my Books my black cabinet and
my Silver Sauce Pan also I give and bequeath to my dear Son Samuel
Sykes my Wallnutree Chest of Drawers my two ....... in y Bedchamber
and all such Debts or Sums of Money as he shall owe me at the time
of my decease also I give and bequeath to my dear Son William Sykes
my Clock my Pier Glass in my Closet a feather Bed and three Blankets
my Great Chest with all the T.... therein belonging to me and all
the China upon the Glass Case in the four Parlour also if there are
any Goods of mine of any kind in my son Peter Sykes’ dwelling house
besides what are above mentioned which I have not heretofore given
unto him I do hereby give and bequeath them unto him my said son
Peter Sykes also I do hereby give to my dear Sister Catherine
Boustell Widow the Sum of ffive Guineas and my Silk Gowns and Linnen
and to my dear Brother Luke Parsons to my Nephew Richard Wright and
his Wife and to my ffriends Mrs Hall Mrs Stroud and Mrs Knaplock
each of the a Ring of a Guinea value also I will that my said Sons
Peter Sykes and William Sykes my Executors hereinafter named do
receive all the Dividends Interest and Proceeds of my three Hundred
and Twenty Pounds Hudson Bay Stock Standing in the Name of Henry
Sykes deceased for and during the natural Life of my Servant Ann
Wislon and desire them to apply the same in the Payment of such
Annuitys as shall be due and Payable to the said Ann Wilson for her
Life also I give and bequeath all the following Legacys Payable
after the Death of the said Ann Wilson that is to say I give and
bequeath I give and bequeath to my said Daughter Judith Levitt all
the Dividends Interest and Proceeds of one Hundred Pounds of the
said Hudsons Bay Stock for the Term of her natural Life and from and
after her decease I give the said one Hundred Pounds Hudsons Bay
Stock and all the Dividends Interest and Proceeds belonging to the
same to my said Son Peter Sykes his Executors and Administrators
also I give and bequeath to my dear Daughter Catherine the Wife of
Mr Peter Wright the Sum of ffifty Pounds and all the rest and
residue of my Personal estate of what nature and kind soever it be I
give and bequeath the same to my said Sons Peter Sykes and William
Sykes to be equally divided between them and I do hereby make
Constitute and appoint my said Sons Peter Sykes and William Sykes
Executors of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all
former Wills by me at any time heretofore made and Published In
Witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal this ninth Day
of April in the Year of our Lord one Thousand seven Hundred and
forty eight Judith Sykes
