THIS IS THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT
Of me EDWARD SWALES of Sheerness in the County of Kent Surgeon I give devise and bequeath all and every my real and personal estate subject to the payment of my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses and particularly to the payment in the first place to my Wife Maria Swales or to her Executors in the event of her decease of a capital sum of One thousand five hundred (being money of hers in my in my hands and owing to her) to my said Wife absolutely but subject to the payment of three several sums of Five hundred Pounds one of such sums I give to my Sister Christina Dutton Widow another of such sums I give to my Sister Lily Dowker Widow and the other such sums I give to my Sister Mary Ann Speck Widow And I direct it to be my Will that in the event of the death of any of my said Sisters in my lifetime that the said sums of Five hundred Pounds so given to her shall go to and between her children in equal shares And I appoint my said Wife EXECUTRIX and my Friend and Solicitor John Copland EXECUTOR of this my Will and I give the said John Copland a legacy of Twenty Pounds free of duty and direct that the said John Copland shall act as Solicitor for any legal or other business done by him under this my Will and charge his usual charges therefor notwithstanding he is also Executor And hereby revoking all former and other Wills I do make and declare this only to be and contain my last Will and Testament IN WITNESS whereof I the said Edward Swales the Testator have to this my last Will and Testament set my hand this twenty fifth day of August One thousand eight hundred and ninety nine – EDWARD SWALES - SIGNED by the said Edward Swales the Testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us present at the same time who at his request in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as Witnesses – SARA JANE LARKIN 4 Trinity Road Sheerness – ELIZA BATT 3 Trinity Road Sheerness.

On the 27 th day of December 1899 Probate of this Will was granted to Maria Swales Widow and John Copland the Executor.
