The Will of Giles Sussex
In the
Name of God Amen I Giles
Sussex of East Ilsley in the
County of Berks Blacksmith
being weak in Body but of
sound and disposing mind and
memory thanks be given to
Almighty God for the same
but considering the
uncertainty of this life and
the certainty of death do
think fit to make and ordain
this my last Will and
Testament in Writing whereby
in the first place I charge
all my Estate both Reall and
Personal with the payment of
all my just Debts which I
shall owe at the time of my
decease together with my
ffuneral Expences And from
and after full Payment of
the same I give settle and
dispose of the same as
follows I give devise and
bequeath unto my loving
ffriends Robert Barnes of
East Ilsley in the County of
Berks Clerke and Thomas
Sussex of East Ilsley in the
aforesaid County Butcher All
that my Messuage or Tenement
Backside Garden Outhouses
and Buildings to the same
belonging and also all those
my nine Acres of Arrable
Land and comons with their
Appurtenances to the said
Messuage or Tenement
belonging situate and being
in Eat Ilsley aforesaid and
all other my Chattells and
Personal Estate whatsoever
and wheresoever To Hold unto
the said Robert Barnes and
Thomas Sussex their
Executors Administrators and
Assigns Upon the Trusts and
to and for the several uses
intents and purposes herein
after mentioned (that is to
say) Upon Trust that they
the said Robert Barnes and
Thomas Sussex their
Executors Administrators and
Assigns shall permit and
suffer my said Wife Mary and
her Assigns to......and
Dwell in my said Messuage or
Tenement or otherwise to
receive the Rents and
Profits thereof together
with the aforesaid nine
Acres of Land comons and
Premises with their
Appurtenances and during the
term of her natural life and
from and immediately the
decease of my said Wife Mary
Upon this further Trust and
Confidence that they the
said Robert Barnes and
Thomas Sussex shall receive
the Rents and Profits of the
aforesaid Messuage or
Tenement nine Acres of Land
and Premises with their
Appurtenances and apply the
same for and towards the
Maintenance and Breeding up
of my Children till they
shall severally attain their
full Age of twenty one Years
And also upon this further
Trust that they the said
Robert Barnes and Thomas
Sussex their Executors
Administrators and Assigns
shall sell and dispose of
the said Messuage or
Tenement nine Acres of Land
Comons and Premises for the
best price that can be got
for the same and the moneys
so raised to be equally
divided unto and amongst my
Children in equal
proportions Share and Share
alike when and so soon as
they shall severally attain
to their full Age of one and
twenty Years and all other
my Chattells and Personal
Estate whatsoever and
wheresoever given and
bequeathed to Robert Barnes
and Thomas Sussex is Upon
this further Trust and
confidence that they the
said Robert Barnes and
Thomas Sussex shall apply
the same for and towards the
Education and Breeding up of
my said Children as they see
proper and convenient and to
and for no other Trust Use
Intent or Purpose whatsoever
and I do hereby make my said
Wife full and Sole Executrix
of this my last Will and
Testament revoking and
making void all Former Wills
by me heretofore made And in
Testimony that this is my
last Will and Testament I
have hereunto set my hand
and seal the third day of
December in the Year of Our
Lord One Thousand seven
Hundred and forty eight
