The Will of George Stubbs

 

George Stubbs Head Gardener to the Right Honourable Lord Prudhoe of Saint John’s Stanwick

 

This is the last will and testament of me GEORGE STUBBS of Aldbrough in the parish of St Johns Stanwick in the North Riding of the County of York Head Gardener to the Right Honourable Lord Prudhoe who being of sound mind memory and understanding do make the same in manner and form following that is to say, I give devise and bequeath to my wife ELIZABETH STUBBS all that dwelling house garden outhouses and all other appurtenances thereunto belonging situate at Aldbrough aforesaid and being now in my own occupation together with all my furniture beds bedding plate and china to hold the same to my said wife for and during the term of her natural life and from and after the decease of my said wife or if I should survive her then from and after my own death I give and devise and bequeath the aforesaid dwelling house garden outhouses and all other appurtenances thereto belonging and being now in my own occupation together with all my furniture beds bedding place and china to my son THOMAS STUBBS for and during the term of his natural life and at the decease of my said son then to my Grandson GEORGE ODY STUBBS I also give and devise to my wife ELIZABETH STUBBS and annuity or yearly sum of £60 to be paid to my said wife for and during the term of her natural life free from all taxes and clear of all other deductions whatsoever and to be paid and payable by half yearly payments that is to say on the 13th day of May and the 23rd day of November in every year by equal payments the first payment thereof to begin and to be made on such of the days as shall first happen after my decease and I do hereby direct ... the said annuity ... shall be paid out of my money which I have placed in the hands after the payment of all my just debts funeral expences the annuity herein specified and the charges of proving this my said will and testament the residue and remainder of my money which I may have in the funds or elsewhere at my wife’s death I give devise and bequeath with the interest due upon it to my two sons THOMAS STUBBS and GEORGE STUBBS and my daughter ELEANOR the wife of GEORGE ATTY the same to be equally divided amongst them .... and I do nominate consitute and appoint GEORGE ATTY my son in law and THOMAS STUBBS my son joint Executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me at any time heretofore made and allowing this and no other to be my last will and testament In witness whereof I the said Testator GEORGE STUBBS have hereunto set my hand and seal this 12 November 1828

 

Witnesses William Heslop, Elizabeth Stephenson, William Temple senior.

 

Proved at London 25 March 1840 by the oath of George Atty the surviving executor
