The Will of Margaret Smithies

 

In the Name of God Amen I MARGARET SMITHIES of Bedall in the County of York spinster being weak in Body but of Perfect  memory  Do make this my Last Will and Testament as followeth First I give unto my Brother STEPHEN SMITHIES £5 and to my nephew STEPEHEN SMITHIES £4 to be respectively paid within six months after my decease Also I give unto my niece ISABEL SMITHIES £3 to be paid when she attains the age of 21 years and I further give her my painted Linnen Gown and I Give unto my neice ELIZABETH IMISON her sister my silver tankard she paying  two Guineas out of the same. Also I give to my brother GEORGE SMITHIES and to his Daughter ELIZABETH £5 each to be paid within 6 months after my decease and I do further give unto the said ELIZABETH last named my bedstead and hangings belonging it my Orange coloured poplin Gown and my little looking glass Also I give unto my Mother ELLERTON 5 shillings and to my sister ELIZABETH WEBSTER £3  and to my sister ANNE FAWCETT £2 and to my sister CATHERINE WHITELOCK £1 to be respectively paid them within six months after my decease and I further Give unto my said sister ELIZABETH my old Clock and Case and unto my said sister CATHERINE my black crape Gown Tail And Also I give unto my two nephews GEORGE and JOSEPH SMITHIES and to MARGERY SMITHIES their sister £5 each and to my God daughter MARGARETT SMITHIES £7 to be resepctively paid them as they severally attain the age of 21 years and in the mean time my will is that my said Brother GEORGE their Father receive th Interest thereof towards their maintenance and Education and in Case either of my said two nephews or neices last mentioned happen to die before their Legacy become due then my mind is that the Legacy of him her or them so Dying be equally divided amongst the surivivors of them share and share alike and I Do further Give unto my Neice MARGERY eight chaires A Corner Cupboard my Copper Can three Brass Candlesticks a pair of snuffers and a warming pan and unto my said Neice MARGARETT my two large Silver spoons six silver teaspoons and a tea tongs And that my said brother GEORGE do keep the same for their respective uses and I give unto my sister ELIZABETH SMITHIES their mother my best black crape gown And Lastly I give unto Mr GEORGE WARD of Kirby Wisk one Guinea and to his daughter Mistress MARY WARD my scarlet cloak and all the rest and residue of my Cloaths Linnen Woollen Household stuff and things of what nature or kind soever I give and bequeath unto my neice SARAH SMITHIES after my just debts funeral expences and legacys be truly paid and discharged and I do hereby nominate and appoint my said neice SARAH together with the said GEORGE WARD joint executors in trust for this my Last will and Testament revoking all other wills by me at any time formerly made In Witness whereof I the said MARGARETT SMITHIES first above named have hereunto set my hand and seal this 4 January 1734

Bond of administration - George Ward of Kirkby Wiske in the County of York gentleman .... bound to administer the last will and testament of Margaret Smithies late of Bedale within the archdeaconry of Richmond deceased ..... 31 Janaury 1734
