The Will of Thomas Oak Smith

 

I Thomas Oak Smith of No 13 Gloster Place Brighton in the County of Sussex Gentleman do make publish and declare this to be my last Will and Testament ffirst I revoke all former Wills which I may at any time have made secondly I desire that all my just debts funeral & Testamentary expenses may be paid and then I do give and bequeath to my dear Wife Sophia all my real and personal Estate effects & property of every kind whatsoever & wheresoever it may be situated of which I may die seized or possessed to have and to hold the same for her own use and benefit and her heirs and assigns for ever And I do hereby appoint my said Wife Sophia Smith to be the Executor of this my Will In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 11th day of January 1837  _  Thomas Oak Smith Witness B Attwood

Appeared Personally Elizabeth Sophia ffrench wife of Henry ffrench of Western Road Brighton in the County of Sussex Glass Cutter and being sworn on the Holy Evangelist made oath that she knew and was well acquainted with Thomas Oak Smith late of No 13 Gloucester Place Brighton aforesaid Gentleman deceased for some years before and to the time of his death and also with the manner & character of his handwriting & subscription having frequently seen him write & also write & subscribe his name and having carefully viewed the name Thomas Oak Smith set and subscribed at the foot of the paper writing hereunto annexed purporting to be and contain the last Will & Testament of the said deceased beginning thus “I Thomas Oak Smith of No 13 Glocester place Brighton in the County of Sussex Gentleman” ending thus “I have hereunto set my hand this 11th day of January 1837” & thus subscribed “Thomas Oak Smith” further made oath that she verily & in her Conscience believes the said names so subscribed as aforesaid to be of the proper handwriting & subscription of the said deceased  _  Eliz S French 28 ffebruary 1837
