In the Name of God Amen I BARNARD SMITH of
Cams House in the Parish of Aisgarth in the County of York gentleman
do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in manner and
form following. First I give and devise unto my dear wife ANN SMITH
her heirs and assigns forever all that messuage or dwelling house
whrein I now live and all the household goods therein contained and
also one garden stable and other outhouses with the appurtenances
thereunto belonging and also all those my freehold houses lands and
grounds situate lying and being near Cams house aforesaid and now in
the several possessions of THOMAS KETTLEWELL, JAMES KETTLEWELL,
ELEANOR KETTLEWELL as tenants and farmers thereof and also those
several closes or parcels of land now in my own possession ... Corn
Close,. Small Close and Killing Haw, Garth Brow, West Garth together
with one half of a pasture called CamshousePasture ...... unto my
dear wife ANN SMITH... my fourth part of the other moiety or half
part of Cams house Pasture ... and a fourth part of Cams house lands
which were purchased by my late father in law ALEXANDER SMITH
deceased of RICHARD and ARTHUR KETTLEWELL .... which premises were
left me by my late Father in law ALEXANDER SMITH.... to my dear wife
ANN SMITH.
Item I do hereby give and devise unto my dear
wife ANN SMITH ... all my right and title of my Freehold estate
which I purchased of JOHN SL ..TT ? of Swington ? in Westmoreland
situate and being at Litherskew in Wensladale in the County of York
in the several possession of SIMON THWAITE and THOMAS BROWN and
EDMUND FOTHERGILL save two closes called Luke Close and Haw now in
my own possession .... as tenants ... and all my right and title at
Litherskew ... unto my dear wife ANN SMITH ...
Item unto ANN SMITH .. my freehold estate
lying and being at Gayle now in the several possession of GEORGE
DINSDALE, THOMAS WHITFIELD, JAMES CONSTANTINE, JOHN WHALEY and
LEONARD SEDGWICK as tenants and farmers thereof.... and 25
cattlegates on Counterside Bardale now in the possession of RICAHRD
BELINGHAM as tenants farmer ... and a close called Banks situate at
Carleton in Coverdale .... late in possession of THOMAS WATSON
deceased .... unto my dear wife ANN SMITH... closes called Broaddale
with one dwelling house therein, a close called Crookey Shaw and a
house adjoining EMMANUAL METCALF's house... being at Shaw Coat in
Wensladale together with 4 cattlegates in Coat Cow Pasture and also
that close being part of Brockhill Coatlands .... to my dear wife
ANN SMITH ...
Item ... to ANN SMITH all that dwelling house
situate and standing in the Town of Askrigg in Wensladale wherein
THOMAS LITTLE now lives ... and also two shops in Askrigg , one in
possession of GEORGE METCALFE as tenant the other shop in my own
possession also 6d rent in Askrigg Cow Close ... to my dear wife ANN
SMITH
item all the rest and residue and remainder of
my estate .... to my dear wife ANN SMITH.... ANN SMITH sole
executrix of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all
other wills . I do hereby order my dear wife ANN SMITH to pay all my
just debts and funeral expences In Witness whereof I have hereunto
set my hand and seal 12 April 1748
