In the Name of
God Amen I JANE SMIDYS of Melmerby in the Parish of Coverham in the
county of York singlewoman being of good and perfect memory thank be
given to Almighty God and calling to mind the uncertain Estate of
this transitory life and haveing a desire to order and dispose pf
such my Temporall Esatate as it hath pleased Almighty God to bestow
upon me and bless me withall I do make this my last will and
Testament in manner and form following and First I recommend and
bequeath my soul intot he protestion of Almighty God hoping for
mercy and pardon of all my sins and offences through the
Merritorious Death of Jesus Christ my blessed Saviour and Redeemer
and my body I frely committ to the ground to be interred in
Christian and decent manner as to my Executors hereafter named shall
seem meet.
Item after all
my debts and funeral expences be paid and discharged all my lands at
Melmerby I give and bequeath to my sister ANN RENNOLD and her son
THOMAS whom I appoint to be my Executors during the time of their
natural lifes and after their decease I give and bequeath the same
lands and household goods unto JANE the wife of JOHN BECK and her
hairs forever begotten of her own body and for want of heirs of JANE
the wife of JOHN BECK to be equally divided betwixt her tow [two]
own sisters ANN PRETIOUS living in Great Ousbourn and ELIZABETH
PRETIOUS living in Little Ousebourn in Ousbourn Parish
Item I give
unto JANE the wife of JOHN BECK all that belongeth thereto at my
decease.

unto ANN the wife of WILLIAM PRETIOUS the sum of £4
Item I give
unto ELIZABETH the wife of ROBERT PRETIOUS the summ of £4
Item I give
unto METCALFE MORELAND the son of JOHN MORELAND mason in Melmerby in
the parish of Coverham in the County of York the sum of £2
Item I give
unto THOMAS GELDART of Carleton in the same parish and in the county
of York the sum of £1
Item I give
unto ISABELL the wife of JOHN SPENCE of Bradly in the same parish
and County of York the sum of £1
which said
legacies above named I order JANE the wife of JOHN BECK to pay them
at the Decease of THOMAS RENNOLD her brother Likewise I appoint the
above named JANE BECK as a Truste for the said THOMAS RENNOLD Her
brother being incapable of his self that he hath Meat Drink and
Cloase necsasary for such a Person And this being absolutely my last
will and testament Revoking and making void all and every other will
and Testament in any kind whatsoever by me formerly or at any time
heretofore maid Executed Published or Declared In witness whereof I
the said JANE SMIDYS have hereunto set my hand and seal 18
