In the Name of God Amen the 14 day of June
1773. I CHRISTOPHER SLATER of Calberge [Caldbergh] in the County of
York yeoman being very sick and weak in body but of perfect memory
Do make and ordain this my last will and testament and first of all
I recommend my body to the earth to be buried in a Christian like
and decent manner And as touching my worldly estates, I give devise
and dispose of the same in the manner and form following, that is to
say, in the first place I make and ordain my son THOMAS SLATER my
sole executor of this my last will and testament that is for him to
have the west end of my dwelling house, Jagger Gill, garden and ?flant?
house, and also the garths which garths he shall enter on at the
decease of my father, and likewise I leave my said son THOMAS the
sum of £120 to be paid among my other children in the manner and
form following : to my son CHRISTOPHER SLATER to have £45 out of the
said money, likewise I give him the east end of my dwelling house
which is lately rebuilt. Also I give unto my daughter ELIZABETH
SLATER £45 to be paid by my executor out of the aforesaid £120. Also
I give unto my son JOHN £35 to be paid out of the aforesaid money
and £35 more out of the lands to paid at 21 years of my son JOHN's
age. I also will and ordain that my above mentioned children shall
live together till my son CHRISTOPHER be 21 years of age, and then
my stock and furniture to be equally divided among them after the
rent be paid and in case my daughter should leave them for her to
take a bed where she likes with everything thereunto belonging.
I likewise will that my before mentioned
children pay to my wife MARY 15 shillings per piece a year and also
to let her have house room while she continueth my widow and also to
have the said yearly stipend while she continueth my widow.
I likewise will and ordain that my Executor
shall call in no money out of that sum without the consent of
CHARLES BLADES and ROBERT REYNARD whom I constitute and appoint
trustees to my children and in case my son THOMAS should die or
leave this country for the said trustees to call in and divide the
forementioned money among them according as this my will directs, if
the money be forth coming. And that none of my children shall
receive this money till they are 21 years of age and if any
disputes should arise the said disputes to be decided at the
discretion of the trustees without law. I do hereby disallow revoke
and disannul all other testaments etc In witness whereof I have
hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written
