The Will of Mary Sellwood
In the Name of God Amen I Mary Sellwood of East Ilsley
in the County of Berks Widow being of sound Mind do make this my last Will
and Testament in manner following that is to say ffirst it is my Will that
all my just Debts and ffuneral Expences be honourably paid also I give and
bequeath unto my beloved Daughter Martha Sellwood the Sum of four hundred
Pounds of lawful Money of Great Britain to be paid unto her within one
calender Month next after my decease but without any Interest for the ame in
the mean time Also I give and bequeath unto my beloved son Henry Sellwood
and John Lewendon of West Ilsley in the County of Berks Yeoman their
Executors and Administrators the Sum of four hundred Pounds of lawful Money
of Great Britain upon the Trusts hereinafter mentioned concerning the same
that is to say In Trust that they the said Henry Sellwood and John Lewendon
or the Survivor of them his Executors or Administrators do and shall as soon
as conveniently may be after my decease place out the last mentioned Sum of
four hundred Pounds to Interest upon Government or such other Securities as
they shall think fit and from time to time during the natural life of my
beloved Daughter Mary Hempsted the Wife of Stephen Hempsted pay into the
proper Hands of her my said Daughter Mary exclusive of her present or any
after taken Husband And with which such Husband shall not intermeddle all
the Interest Dividends and Produce of the said last mentioned Sum of four
hundred Pounds for her own sole and separate use it being my express will
that the same shall not be subject to the Debts Engagements or Controul of
such present or after taken Husband and that the receipt of my said Daughter
Mary alone notwithstanding her Coverture and whether she shall be sole or
married shall be a good and effectual Discharge to my said Trustees for all
the Interest or dividends of the said last mentioned Sum of four hundred
Pounds which they shall from time to time pay her by virtue of this my Will
and immediately after the decease of my said Daughter Mary it is my Will
that the said Henry Sellwood and John Lewendon shall stand possessed of the
said Sum of four hundred Pounds last mentioned and the Interest then due and
growing due thereon In Trust for all the Children if more than one of my
said Daughter Mary shall be living at the time of her death equally to be
divided amongst them share and share alike and if there shall be but one
such child of my said Daughter Mary living at the time of her death In Trust
for such only Child Provided and my Will and Meaning is that the share of
such Children as shall be Sons shall be paid them at their ages of twenty
one Years and the share of such of them as shall be Daughters shall be paid
them at their several ages of twenty one Years or Days of Marriage which
shall first happen and my Will further is that the Interest of the several
shares of the said children in the said last mentioned Sum of four hundred
Pounds shall if my said Trustees judge it necessary be paiod and applied for
and towards the Maintenance and Education of the said Children respectively
until they shall severally become entitled to their several shares of the
principal Provided also and my Will further is that if any of the said
Children of my said Daughter Mary shall happen to die before his her or
their shares of the last mentioned Sum of four hundred Pounds shall become
payable that then the share or shares of her or them so dying shall go and
be paid to the Survivor or Survivors of such Children share and share alike
at the time when such Survivor or Survivors shall become intitled to his her
or their original share or shares of the said last mentioned Sum of four
hundred Pounds Provided also and my Will and Meaning further is that if my
said Daughter Mary shall happen to die without leaving a Child or Children
living at the time of her death or leaving such Child or Children all of
them shall happen to die before he she or they shall become intitled to
receive the Sum of four hundred Pounds agreeable to the meaning of this my
Will then and in either of those cases it is my Will that the said last
mentioned Sum of four hundred Pounds and all the Interest remaining due
thereon shall go and be paid unto my said Son Henry and Daughter Martha
Sellwood equally to be divided between them share and share alike but if
only one of them my said Son and Daughter Henry and Martha shall be then
living it is my Will that the said whole Sum of four hundred Pounds last
mentioned shall be paid to the Survivor of them my said last named Son and
Daughter also I give and bequeath unto my said Son Henry Sellwood All my
Leasehold Estate in the Parish of Hampstead Norris in the said County of
Berks and all the rest and residue of my Goods Chattells and Personal Estate
whatsoever and wheresoever provided and my Will is that nothing herein
contained shall extend or be construed to extend to release or extinguish
any Debt or Sum of Money which shall be due to me from my said Son Henry
Sellwood at the time of my decease so as to affect or prejudice the Legacy
of four hundred Pounds hereinbefore given upon the Trusts aforesaid and I do
hereby appoint my said Son Henry Sellwood and the said John Lewendon joint
Executors of this my last Will and Testament and revoke all former and other
Wills and Testaments by me hereinbefore made In Witness whereof to each
Sheet of this my last Will and Testament contained in three Sheets of Paper
I have set my Hand and Seal the eighteenth day of October in the Year of our
Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy four Mary Sellwood
