the name of God, Amen;
The xiiith [13th]
day of March in the year
of our Lord God 1598, I,
Robert Scales of ?the ?Waitehead
in the county of
Lancaster ?being sick in
body but of whole mind
and perfect memory, god
be praised, do ordain
and make this my last
will and testament in
manner and form
following;
First, I give and
bequeath my soul into
the hands of god who
gave it unto me, and I
commit my body to the
earth from whence it
came;
Item, I give and
bequeath my ?tenements

to John Scales my
brother, Richard his
son, to him and his sons
forever;
