The Will of John Sandford


In the name of God Amen in the yere of our Lorde God 1557 the 29th day of May, I John Sandford the elder of Stonehouse in the County of Gloucester Clothier being hole in mynde and perfect in memory doe give make and ordaine my last will and testament as follows First I give and bequeath my soule unto the hands of mercy? peace? and redeemer Jesus Christe which dyed for my sins and is reason for my inspiration in solemn and by whom from constantly believe that all my sinns are …?.. the hands of God satisfied and my heavenly father pleased forgive me and for me whoe hath for Christs sake only made me his childe and …?.. of eternal life secondly for and macke my heavenly father hath decreed that for him this my boddie which he made of the earth should be farmed into the earth again and one nothing …?… dying at his making deserve? I bequeath his son to the earth Blessing made stedfastly that my Lorde and saviour Christ by his omnipotency will sacrifice self same ..?.. …?… at the last day in the resurrection of the …?… whom it shall …?… my soul and be immortal and dwell with God in life everlasting Next and …?… my goods who of the Lorde hath …?… …?… my will is that they shall be distributed in manner and forme following first I give and bequeath unto every one of my children unmarryed that is to will to John …?… Katheryn Henry and Anne my youngest daughter and unto any one of them …?… forty? pounds of good and lawfull money of England to be payed unto them at the day of their marriage or at the age of 21 years if they be then unmarried without any …?… ..?… or delay provided always that if any of my children before named happen to die before the daye of their marriage then my will is that his or her portion shall be equally divided betwixt the rest of my children before named at that day and tyme livinge Next I give and bequeath to the English congregation of Frankfurt and Geneva ten pounds of good and lawful money of England. To be payed unto them equally to be divided betwixt them immediately after my decease or death and it it happen then of them to be dissolved before the other or from then I will that the sole sum of ten pounds aforesaid shall remain and be given holy to the other of them standing and if they both be dissolved before my decease and God forbid then I will that the ten pounds aforesaid shall be given to the poore …?… and afflicted flocke of Christ at the discretion of my executors. Next I give and ordaine that Ann Sanford my youngest daughter shall be in …?… …?… and assignment of Thomas Cole until the time of her marriage or age of 21 years. Next I will that her portion with her shall be delivered into the hands of the saide Thomas immediately after my decease with him to remain until thereof and time above saide ..?… then I will that saide Thomas shall deliver her portion to her again and is above sayed Next I give and bequeath unto the saide Thomas Cole 20 pounds? of good and lawful money of England and to immediately after my decease be paide him in recompence of this and …?… for the funding of my saide daughter during the tyme of her nonage so whost charge and custodie I only have committed her the rest of all my goods moveable and unmoveable not …?…. now bequeath I ….?… bequeath unto Willm Sanford John Sanford and Willm Cole my sonnes equally to be divided amongst them whence I ordaine and make myne executors finally I do make and ordaine constitute and appoint Thomas Sanford Thomas Gough?
