The Will of William Ryall of
Thornford in the County of Dorset deceased
By this my Last Will and Testament made the Twenty
Eighth day of December in the Year of our Lord one
Thousand seven Hundred and seventy nine I William Ryall
the Elder of Thornford in the County of Dorset Yeoman do
Give Devise and Bequeath my Worldly Goods and Estate in
manner following (That is to say) First I Give and
Bequeath unto my Son William Ryall All those two Closes
of Pasture Ground called Middle or great Ridgeways And
also a Close called Ridge and another called Morton many
Years since planted to an Orchard All Situate at
Thornford aforesaid and which I am entitled to for the
remainder of some long Term of Years To Hold the same
unto my said son William Ryall and to his Executors
Admors and Assigns for all my Terms Estate and Interest
therein respectively (Chargeable nevertheless with the
Payment of the Sum of fforty pounds hereinafter taken
Notice of) Also I Give and Bequeath unto my Son William
Ryall All that Messuage Tenement or Dwelling House
wherein I now Live together with the Outhouses Gardens
Orchard and Backside thereto adjoining and likewise the
several Closes pieces and parcels of Ground thereunto
belonging situate in Thornford aforesaid and which I
Hold under Samuel Moody Esq by Virtue of some Lease or
Leases for the Remainder of some Term or Terms of Years
(determinable with the Death or Deaths of some life or
lives) To Have and To Hold the said last mentioned
premises with their and every of their Appurtenances
unto my said Son William Ryall and to his Assigns for
and during so many Years of such Term or Terms as shall
run out and expire in his Life Time And from and after
his decease I Give and Bequeath all and singular the
said last mentioned ……..with their and every of their
appurts unto such of their Children of my said Son
William Ryall as shall then be living for the then
remainder of such Term or Terms Equally to be Divided
between them but nevertheless To be holden of the chief
Lord or Lords of the ffee or ffeesof the said premises
by and under the same duties and services therefore due
and of right accustomed And whereas my said Son William
Ryall some time since borrowed of James Hoare of
Sherborne in the said County of Dorset the sum of fforty
pounds for the security whereof I became bound with him
in a Bond to the said James Hoare Now that the said
fforty pounds with its Interest may be paid off and
Discharged by my said Son William I do hereby Charge and
make Chargeable the aforesaid Closes called Middle or
Great Ridgeways Ridge and Mortin with the payment
thereof and all Interest now due and to grow due for the
same Also I Give and Devise unto my Son John Ryall and
to his Heirs and Assigns for ever All that Close of
Arable or Pasture Ground called Wavelands Containing
about seven Acres with its appurts Situate also in
Thornford aforesaid And unto my said son John Ryall and
to his executors Admors and Assigns I Give and Bequeath
for the remainder of the several and respective Terms
Estate and Interest which I have and claim therein All
those ffour Closes of Pasture Ground called Culon Shurne
otherwise Cabbatts Thorne And all that Close of Meadow
or pasture Ground called Shorelands Head alias Shoredown
head And also all that Tenement or Dwelling House
wherein my said Son William now lives with the Garden
Plott and little Orchard thereto belonging and now Used
therewith And likewise the Tenement or Dwelling House
now Inhabited by John Hanham with the Garden Plott to
the same belonging and occupied therewith All which said
last mentioned premises are likewise situate in
Thornford aforesaid Subject nevertheless to the payment
and performance of the rents and services therefore due
and of Right accustomed Also I Give and Bequeath unto my
Daughter Mary (the Wife of James Moore) All those two
Closes of Meadow or pasture Ground called by the names
of Hay Crofts And all that Close of Arable or pasture
Ground called Hinshard And also All that Cottage and
Garden with the Appurts thereof now in the possession of
Thomas Dredge And likewise All that Tenement or Dwelling
house now Inhabited by Solomon Fulk with the Garden
allotted thereto and now enjoyed therewith together with
all and singular the Rights Members and Appurts to the
same respectively belonging All which said Premises
(William Ryall) are Situate and being in Thornford
aforesaid To Hold the said several Closes of Ground and
Premises with their and every of their Appurtenances
unto my said Daughter Mary and to her Executors Admors
and Assigns for all the Terms Estate and Interest which
I have and claim therein respectively Subject
nevertheless to the payment and performance of the Rents
and services therefore due and of Right accustomed Also
I Give and bequeath unto my said Son William Ryall the
following parts of my Household Goods and Implements of
Household vizt. In the stean House One cheese stean, one
Brass furnace one large boiler, a bellmetal pott, one
skillet, a copper frying pan, an old square table and
form and the Bread brake In the Kitchen one long oak
settle, one small elm and one oak round Table, one
square side Table, the dresser and two armed chair the
bacon rack, two iron slices and a pair of Tongs In the
Hall the clock and Case with its weights & the large
looking glass and Window Curtain In the Hall Chamber the
Bed with all its ffurniture and the Oak Chest of Drawers
In the Milk house an Old Square table. A bin and all the
cheese shelves with their frames In the room over the
Entry a little oak box marked with the letters W.R: In
the Cheese Loft one Malt Mill In the outer Cellar a half
Hogshead tub, a Cheese Tub and one trendle Also I give
him Eight hogshead vessels one long ladder my Apple Mill
and Cyder press and Wort cooler And I likewise give him
All my Waggons Dung Potts and all and every my
Implements of Husbandry Except such parts thereof as I
shall hereinafter give unto my said Son John Ryall Also
I Give and Bequeath unto my said Son John Ryall other
parts of my Household Goods and Implements of Household
Vizt In the Stean House one large brass kettle In the
Kitchen one large bell metal Pott one small old kettle
the best roasting rack and weights, one spit, fire pan
and tongs, the large pair of Shelyards, a pair of brasse
Candlesticks, a roasting Iron, a lattin cheese toaster,
a Gun and a bell metal skillet In the Milk House on
large Milk cistern and brass pan In the Kitchen Chamber
the bed there with all its ffurniture and an Oak chest
In the Passage chamber one square oak Box In the Hall a
two armed chair, a square oak table and ffour rush
bottomed chairs In the Hall Chamber one Dressing Table
with the Glass upon it, an oak tea table and an Oak
Coffer In the Outer cellar one large brewing Vat and one
Trendle I also give him Eight Hogsheads Vessells and one
long ladder And likewise my Old Waggon and the biggest
of my Dung Potts one pair of Hays or Harrows one Corn
screen and the Mow stadle that has the Harnhill stocks
belonging to it Also I Give and Bequeath unto my said
Daughter Mary other parts of my Household Goods and
Implements of Household Vizt In the Stean House one
small boyler one bell metal pot a small Iron pot a
Copper stew pan a hanging skillett and a Milk Kettle In
the Kitchen s small roasting Jack and a small iron spitt
the pestle and Mortar two short brass Candlesticks a
pair of Brass snuffers a latten oven a Gridiron two
armed chairs a Tea Kettle and warming pan In the Hall
one round table an oak tea table the Coal grate fire
Doggs coal shovel ffire pan poker and tongs and a pair
of billows In the Milkhouse a lead meat silt and a brass
pan In the Passage Chamber one flock Bed with all the
ffurniture belonging to it, one quilt, one chest, one
square Box and four withy bottomed chairs In the Cheese
Loft two Bedsteads not put up In the room over the Entry
one elm chest of Drawers one close stool a Dressing
table and glass In the Outer Cellar one washing Vat and
one Trendle Also I Give her four Hogshead Vessell and my
Butter churn and stocks All other my Household Goods and
Implements of Household not hereinbefore particularly
given and Disposed of and also all my stock of Liquors I
Give and bequeath unto my two Sons William and John and
to my said Daughter Mary to be equally divided between
them All the rest residue and remainder of my Goods
Chattles Real and personal Estate whatsoever and
Wheresoever the same may be and not hereinbefore given
and Disposed of (William Ryall) (after Payment of my
just Debts and ffuneral Expences) I Give Devise and
Bequeath unto my said two Sons William and John Ryall to
be equally Divided between them share and share alike
And I do hereby make Constitute and Appoint my said Son
John Ryall whole and sole Executor of this my last Will
and Testament hereby revoking all former and other Wills
by me at any Time heretofore made In Witness whereof I
the said William Ryall (the Testator) have to this my
last Will and Testament contained in three Sheets of
Paper Vizt To the two first Sheets set my Hand and to
the Third and last my hand and seal the Day and year
