The Will & Inventory of Edward Rubbins

 

In the Name of God Amen, I Edward RUBBINS of Market Orton alias Overton in the county of Rutland, shepherd, being sick and weak in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory praised be God Almighty for it, do make and ordain my last will and testament in manner following. Imprimis I  renounce my precious and immortal soul into the hands of Almighty God  my Maker and Creator, hoping through the only merits and mediation of my most blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ for a joyful resurrection and as for my worldly goods and  effects that God hath been pleased to bless me with, I give and bequeath in manner following.

Imprimis I give to my three children, Ann, Mary and Edward twelvepence a piece. All the rest of my goods, chattels and personal effects whatsoever, my debts , legacies and funeral expenses being out of the same first paid of and discharged, I give and bequeath to Anne my dear wife, whom I do hereby make and ordain my full and sole executrix, hereby revoking all other wills by me at any time made and in witness whereof I have herewith set my hand and seal this twelfth day of December anno domini 1729.

 

Signed sealed published and declared by the said Edward Rubbins for his last will and testament in the presence of us who subscribed our names as witness hereunto in the presence of the testator.

Inventory of Edward Rubbins December 1729

 

A true and perfect inventory of all and singular the goods, chattels, rights and credits of Edward Rubbins late of Market Orton, alias Overton in the County of Rutland, shepherd, deceased. Taken and appraised by us whose hands are hereunto subscribed the 20th day of December Anno of Dom 1729.

 

Imprimis his purse and apparel.  10s 0d 

 

In the house. oval table, 9 chairs, a warming pan, 5 puter (sic) dishes, 13 puter plates, a frying pan, 2 brass pans and other goods there. 18s 8d

In the parlour. 1 bed, 1 chest of drawers, 1 chest, 2 boxes, 1 cradle, 1 glass,  a close carbett ( cupboard) and other goods there.15s 6d

In the chamber. 1 bed, 1 wheel, 1 churn, some cheese, barley and other goods there . 14s 6d

In the dairy. 2 barrels, 1 cheese press, 1 ( form?), 1 pail and other goods 6s 8d

In the yard. 2 cows £3 10s 0d ;1 heifer £13s 4d ; 1 hog £1 3s 4d ; 1 pig 5s.0d ; hay 16s 0d ; wood and furze 6s 0d.

In the barn. Barley and peas 16s 8d

Six sheep in the close 16s 0d.

One heifer and calf £1 15s 6d

In the open field 7 ewes and 5 lambs £2 15s 0d

Hay in the close 10s 0d

Debts good and bad 6s 8d

Goods unseen and forgotten 8s 4d

 

Total £18 11s 2d
