In the name of God amen I, Thomas Robinson of
Burscough in the county of Lancaster, husbandman, being aged and
infirm but, blessed be god, of good and sound memory and
understanding and knowing the frailty and uncertainty of this mortal
life and being willing and desirous to get peace and amity amongst
my wife & son after my decease I do make and ordain this my last
will and testament in manner and form following.
That is to say first and principally I commend my soul unto God my
creator hoping and steadfastly believing to be saved through the
alloue? merits and death of Jesus Christ my saviour and redeemer.
And my body after it shall please God to call for me I commit to
christian burial in the usual burial place belonging to my house in
the parish churchyard of Ormskirk at the discretion of my executor
hereafter named.
And whereas I stand lawfully seized and possessed of a certain
messuage and tenement where I now live within Burscough aforesaid
and two other parcels of ground which I lately purchased, all held
under the right honourable William, earl of Derby, the first by
lease and the other by assignment to hold to me and to my heirs and
assigns for the several terms therein and thereby granted with the
tythe, claim and tenant right thereof. And also of and in a certain
parcel of land within Burscough aforesaid which I lately purchased
for my own inheritance, containing twixt five and six acres or
thereabouts be the same more or less, my mind and will is and I do
hereby give, will, devise and bequeath all that my said messuage and
tenement where I now live and the said two parcels of land which I
purchased and the said ground of inheritance being between five and
six acres, all lying within Burscough aforesaid unto my son and only
child William Robinson, who now lives with me, and his heirs &
assigns with all my tythe, claim and interest thereunto under and
upon the payment of the clear yearly sum and annuity of six pounds a
year unto my loving wife Eleanor Robinson for her livelihood &
maintenance, for and during the term of her natural life. And the
chamber where she and I now lye and the bed we now lye on and all
necessities about it, for her use, while she lives, the said
payments to be made quarterly from the time of my decease and the
land to stand chargeable therewith and what it falls short to be
paid out of the two parcels of land I lately bought within Burscough
aforesaid. But if she and my said son be minded to live together
then my mind is that my said son William and his heirs shall but pay
her forty shilling a year, by quarterly payments as aforesaid to buy
her clothes or what she has a mind of and the other four pounds
shall be allowed for her iyet? while they live together.
Item I give and bequeath all my goods, chattels and all my personal
estate whatsoever which shall be mine at the time of my decease unto
my said son & only child William Robinson together with the bed and
furniture about it left for my wife to lye on, after her decease, he
the said William Robinson my son still charged and chargeable out of
my wall? and personal estate with the payments of such debts as I
shall owe and be indebted in, at the time of my decease and also
with my funeral expenses and the charge of probate of this my will.
And lastly I do hereby nominate, constitute and appoint my said son
William Robinson sole executor of this my will into whose care and
confidence I leave the true execution thereof. And in testimony
that it is my full mind & will I have hereunto put my hand and seal
