The Will of Leonard Robinson

 

Will of Leonard Robinson of Gill Hall, North Yorkshire, Merchant 1699

 

To be interred in the parish church of Hornby

With regard to my temporal estate I give and bequeath my property at Gill Hall to my brother in law LEONARD ROBINSON of Gill hall, to his heirs and assigns for ever, subject to the payment of one thousand pounds out of the said estate to Mr JOHN BOTHOMLEY of the City of York, or some others to his benefit and also subject to the payment of three hundred pounds towards the discharge of debts owing on bonds.

Whereas my said brother in law stands jointly and severally bound with me for several great sums of money, being part of them for mine own proper debts and a great many of them borrowed for the proper discharge of the debts of my brother THOMAS ROBINSON, late of London, deceased and the residue being money due in the administration of the goods and chattels of STEPHEN ROBINSON of Catterick, deceased all which sums of money I do own as my proper debt and they should be discharged according share in and hereby is declared  (sic)

I do hereby give my house at Easby known as Long Moores within the townfields of Easby and all the 2 closes known as West Leaze and Jugs in the township of Brompton on Swale  to my well beloved friends  Mr JOHN ROBINSON of Easby and Mr JAMES LIGHTFOOT of Redmire to their heirs and assigns for ever enabling the payment of my debts not charged upon my the  estate of Gill Hall

I give and bequeath the residue of my estate to my nephew THOMAS ROBINSON after he attains the age of twenty four.

John Robinson and James Lightfoot are to act in the case of controversy and ensure all debts are settled.

I give and bequeath to my sister KATHERINE LIGHTFOOT fifty pounds to be paid within six months of my death.

To the poor of Hornby ten pounds, to the poor of Easby ten pounds .

To John Robinson and James Lightfoot five pounds apiece and they are to be executors.

If my nephew Thomas Robinson dies before he reaches the age of twenty four my sister MARY ROBINSON (wife of Leonard) is to have the residue.

30 Dec 1699 Leonard Robinson of Gill Hall accepted this as the true will.
