In the Name of God Amen I CHRISTOPHER ROBINSON
of the County of Middlesex in the Colony of Virginia Esq being of
sound and disposing mind and memory Praised be God for the same and
being desirous to settle my worldly affairs while I have strength
and capacity so to do, do make and publish this my Last Will and
Testament hereby revoking and making void all former will by me at
any time heretofore made and first and principally I commit my soul
into the hands of My Creator who gave it, and my body to the Earth
to be interred in a decent manner.
And as to such worldly Estate wherewith it
hath pleased God to intrust me I dispose of the same as followeth
Imprimis It is my will and desire that if my Estate in Yorkshire in
England should be sold by Virtue of a Power of Attorney which I have
sent home for that purpose the money arising by such sale to be laid
out by my executors hereinafter named in Land and negroes
proportionately. Then I give and bequeath these lands and Negroes to
my son CHRISTOPHER ROBINSON and the heirs male of his body lawfully
begotten forever and failing of such heirs to go and descend in the
same manner the said Estate in Yorkshire would have done before I
had docked the Entail and if my Estate should not be sold by virtue
of the said Power of Attorney then it is my will and desire that my
Executors should sell and dispose of the same as soon as they can
conveniently and the money arising from such sale to be laid out as
above directed and to go and descend in the same manner.....
Item I give and bequeath unto my dear and
beloved wife SARAH ROBINSON one third part of my estate both Real
and Personal in England and Virginia except what I have given to my
two daughters MARY and BETTY during her natural life.
Item I give and bequeath to my said wife the
money that is due to me by RALPH WORMELEY Esq by his Bond also the
following Negroes
SARAH and her children, ROBIN, CAFFEE, MILLY
and her daughter, HANNAH, COOK, BECK and AGGA and their future
increase. The said money and negroes to be dispose of as she please.
Item I give to my daughter MARY ROBINSON all
my land in James City County and the following Negroes on the said
land, CLEASBY, TOM, ANDREW, ABRAM, WILL, NAN and her children and
their increase, also her maid CLARE and her increase to her and her
heirs forever.
Item I give to my daughter BETTY ROBINSON the
five following Negroes ALICE and her sister FRANK, little MILLY,
little LETTIE and RACHEL and their increase. Also £800 sterling to
be paid her as soon as she shall arrive at the age of 21 years or
marriage.
Item All the rest of my estate both real and
personal ... not already disposed I give and bequeath to my son
CHRISTOPHER ROBINSON and his heirs forever.
Lastly I constitute my brother JOHN ROBINSON,
my friends RICHARD CORBIN and RALPH WORMELEY and DUDLEY DIGGES
Executors of this my last will and testament and I desire that my
estate may not be appraised In witness whereof I have hereunto set
my hand and seal 16 July 1768
