This is the Last Will and Testament of me
RALPH RIDER of Leeds in the County of York Gentleman made this 2
July 1805.
To MARTHA the wife of GEORGE FAWCETT and ANN
RIDER daughter of my late cousin MARK RIDER of Winksley in the
parish of Ripon and County of York Stuffweaver deceased I give the
sum of £20 a piece
To WILLIAM POLLARD the son of HANNAH POLLARD
deceased who was another of the daughters of my late Cousin MARK
RIDER I give the like sum of £20
To my Cousin ROBERT RIDER of Fetter Lane,
London gentleman and my cousin CATHERINE PARKIN the widow of JOHN
PARKIN late of Thonrton Rust in the Parish of Aisgarth in
Wensleydale deceased I give the sum of £20 each
To DOROTHY the wife of JOHN LOFTHOUSE of
Sourset in the Parish of Coverham in the said county of York,
DOROTHY the daughter of ELIZABETH the late widow of ANTHONY HORNER
and MARGERY HESELTINE, which said DOROTHY LOFTHOUSE, ELIZABETH and
MARGERY are the three daughters of my Cousin RALPH RIDER I give the
sum of £20 a piece
To RICHARD RIDER of Middlesmoor in Nitherdale
in the Parish of Kirby Malzeard, taylor, and STEPHEN RIDER late of
Blackrakes but now of Walden in the Parish of Aisgarth aforesaid and
to each of them I give the sum of £10
And to BENJAMIN HARDWICK my late apprentice I
give the sum of £10, all which legacies above mentioned I will shall
be paid by my executors and Trustees hereinafter named at the end of
twelve months next after my decease
To my friends THOMAS BUCKLE of Leeds aforesaid
Merchant, WILLIAM WESTERMAN of the same place, Woolstapler and JAMES
ROBSON of the same place Woolstapler and to each of them I give the
sum of 20 Guineas as an Acknowledgement for the trouble they will
have in the execution of the Trusts hereby in them reposed. And to
the said THOMAS BUCKLE, WILLIAM WESTERMAN and JAMES ROBSON I give
them the sum of £20 to be paid at my decease Upon Trust that they do
and shall pay and apply the same in such manner as they shall think
proper and to them shall seem meet towards the support and
continuance of the Sunday Schools at Leeds.
And to the said THOMAS BUCKLE and WILLIAM
WESTERMAN I give the like sum of £20 to be paid to them at my
decease Upon Trust that they do pay the same to the Treasurer for
the time being of a Society who call themselves the Trustees of the
General Infirmary at Leeds which said sum of £20 I desire may be
applied towards carrying on the charitable designs of the said
Society.
To my Housekeeper JANE HARDWICK if living with
me at my decease, but not otherwise, I give and bequeath the Bed she
now sleeps on with the bedstead bedding and hangings belonging the
same for her own use absolutely for ever.
And to the said THOMAS BUCKLE, WILLIAM and
JAMES ROBSON their executors and administrators I give and bequeath
all the rest residue and remainder of my Household Goods and
Furntiure and all my plate linen and china and also all my stock in
Trade Money securities for money personal estate and effects
whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature or kind soever Upon
Trust with all convenient speed after my decease to convert the same
or such part thereof as shall not be in specie nor out upon security
to the satisfaction of my said Trustees at my decease into ready
money And to pay and apply the Money arising therefore or thereby in
such manner as is heretofore for that purpose mentioned
And to the said THOMAS BUCKLE, WILLIAM
WESTERMAN and JAMES ROBSON ... all that my messuage or dwelling
house wherein I now live situate in Albion Street in Leeds aforesaid
with the several warehouses and other outbuildings to the same
belonging And also the three several dwelling houses adjoining or
near thereto lately erected now in the several occupancies of Mrs
LISTER Mr CHARLESWORTH and Mr WILLIAM WILKS Together with the
outbuildings offices rights ..... and appurtenances to all and every
the said messuages or dwelling houses belonging And also all that my
Manor or reputed Manor of Manby otherwise Maunby upon Swale in the
North Riding of the County of York And all my messuages farms lands
tenements tythes and hereditaments situate at Manby otherwise Maunby
aforesaid or in the Parish of Kirkby Wiske in the said County or
elsewhere in the County of York To Hold the same unto the said
THOMAS BUCKLE, WILLIAM WESTERMAN and JAMES ROBSON ... upon the
Trusts and to and for the intents and purposes hereinafter thereof
mentioned that is to say, Upon trust that they or the survivors of
them .... shall where they think proper and convenient ... sell and
dispose of all my said Real Estate in Albion Street in Leeds
aforesaid either by Auction or at private sale , for the best price
.... And upon fruther Trust that they my said Trustees shall out of
the money to arise from the said residue of my personal estate so to
them bequeathed ... and also out of the money to be raised from the
sale of my said Real Estate in Leeds ... and from the rents and
Profits thereof in the mean time And also by and out of the Rents
and Profits of my said other estates so to them devised ... pay and
discharge all my just debts Funeral Expences and the Chrages of
proving and registering this my will and also the several Legacies
by me hereintofore bequeathed. And also .. pay unto the said JANE
HARDWICK, if living with me at my decease, but not otherwise, .. for
and during the term of her natural life one Annuity or yearly sum of
£30..... and pay unto MARGERY RIDER the daughter of my late Cousin
MARK RIDER .. for and during the term of her natural life one
annuity or yearly sum of £10.... both annuities I will and direct
shall be paid by to the said JANE HARDWICK and MARGERY RIDER.... by
two equal half yearly payments .....
Upon Further Trust that my said Trustees
...shall pay unto my Nephew MATTHEW HANDLEY the son of my neice
ISABELL the wife of SIMON HANDLEY of Helks in Netherdale farmer one
annuity or yearly sum of £100 by two equal payments in every year
until all my Debts Legacies and such Expences as aforesaid shall be
paid and discharged the first payment of the said Annuity to begin
and be made at the end of six Months after my decease and be paid
without any deduction or abatement thereout And after all such debts
Legacies and other Expences shall be paid and discharged in case my
said Nephew MATTHEW HANDLEY shall be then unmarried Then Upon Trust
to continue the payment of the said Annuity of £100 in manner
aforesaid to my said nephew until he shall marry And in case and
after he shall marry Then Upon Trust to pay to my said Nephew the
rents and profits of my said real estate and Interest Dividends and
profits of my said Personal estate and of the money arising from the
sale of my said estate in Leeds after the same shall be sold , or
permit and suffer him to receive the same for his own use during his
natural life And from and after his decease Then Upon Trust that the
said THOMAS BUCKLE, WILLIAM WESTERMAN and JAMES ROBSON .... after
the decease of my said nephew MATTHEW HANDLEY convey and assure all
and every my said real estates .. with appurtenances ... subject to
the said annuities ..... to an amongst all and every or any of the
children of my said Nephew MATTHEW HANDLEY and the issue of such
children in such parts shares and proportions manner and form or the
whole to any one of such Children or the Issue of any one or more of
such children for such estate and estates uses intents and purposes
with or without power of revocation and charged and chargeable or
not charged and chargeable with any sum or sums of money to the
other or others of such Children of my said Nephew or any of the
Issue of such Children as my said Nephew MATTHEW HANDLEY shall by
any deed or deeds Writing or writings by him duly executed in the
presence of an attested by two or more credible Witnesses Or by his
Last Will and Testament in writing .. in the nature of a will by him
duly executed in the presence of and attested by three or more
credible witnesses shall direct declare devise ..... And in default
of such direction ... To the Use of all and every the Children of my
said Nephew MATTHEW HANDLEY.... when they shall respectively attain
the ages of 21 years
And I will that the Rents and profits of the
said Trust estates and interest of money .... shall be from time to
time applied in putting out any such children of the said MATTHEW
HANDLEY as my trustees shall think proper to be apprentices to any
Trade or profession and towards the maintenance and education of all
and every the children of the said MATTHEW HANDLEY until their
respective ages of 21 years .....
And in case any of the children of the said
MATTHEW HANDLEY shall happen to die under the age of 21 years
leaving issue of his her or their body lawfully begotten... such
issue shall have and receive and be entitled to a grant conveyance
and delivery as well of such original portion .. of the said real
estates and trust monies ... which the father or mother of such
issue would have been entitled to .....
... But in case the said MATTHEW HANDLEY shall
die without leaving any lawful children .... Then Upon Trust that my
said Trustees ... do and shall convey the said Real estates and
principal trust monies and all accumulations of Interest unto and
amongst all and every the Children of my said two Cousins MARK RIDER
and RALPH RIDER .... share and share alike ... but in case any of
such children shall be then dead leaving Issue .... lawfully
begotten ... such issue shall have and receive and be entitled to
such original portion or share ....as the father or mother of such
issue ...

regarding selling or not selling the estates and investing profts ]

by me gheretofore made I do hereby publish and declare this to be my
last will and testament and appoint the said THOMAS BUCKLE, WILLIAM
WESTERMAN and JAMES ROBSON joint executors
In witness where I have to this my Will set my
hand and seal the day and year first before written

I do hereby certify that on the 28 November
1806 Thomas Buckle, William Westerman and James Robson the joint
executors named in this the last will and testament of Ralph Rider
late of the parish of Leeds in the Diocese of York gentleman
deceased were sworn duly to execute and perform the same .... Sworn
