The Will of Joseph Rich

 

In The Name of God Amen I JOSEPH RICH Citizen and Dyer of London do make this my last Will and Testament in manner following. First I recommend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it me and my body to the ground to be decently buried as near my late loving and good wife as conveniently it can be done in St. Pauls Churchyard in hopes thro and by the merits of my Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ of a joyful resurrection to life eternal. And as to my worldy goods which are but very few having some time past by Deed of Gift and otherwise disposed of almost all that I had, to my daughter HONOUR RICH by reason my late brother THOMAS RICH did by his last Will and Testament handsomely provide for all my children and grandchildren that were then living excepting my said daughter HONOUR RICH. I give and devise as follows that is to say I give and devise unto my son CHARLES RICH all my wearing apparel my Quato bible and my small Common Prayer Book. And as for what debts owe to me for rent and otherwise at the time of my decease I will and order that they shall be applied to the payment of my just debts and the discharging of my funeral charges and what shall be remaining afterwards I hope my daughter HONOUR RICH will make it up ten pounds and give the same to my said son CHARLES RICH. And I do also nominate make and appoint my said daughter HONOUR RICH sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament. And witness of all which I have hereto unto set my hand and seal the twenty sixth day of August, 1737./ JOS. RICH./ signed sealed published and declared by the said JOSEPH RICH as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us./ SAML. ROTHERY- ANN MITCHELL

This will was proved at London before the Worshipful John Andrew Doctor of Laws Surrogate of the Right Worshipful John Bettesworth Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Cout of Canterbury lawfully constituted on twelfth day of January in the year of our Lord seven hundred and thirty seven by the oath of HONOUR RICH spinster the daughter of the deceased and sole Executrix named in the said Will. To whom was granted administration of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased. She being first sworn duly to administer the same.
